Boots -- Fat face or Clarks? Black or Brown?

dublinmom · 09/12/2008 14:22

I have been given some money by my mom to spend on myself and am finally going to get a nice pair of boots! I have about 150 Euro to spend (think that's around £100) and want to get something good that will last.

I've had Clarks shoes before that seem to last forever, are the boots the same? Anyone bought Fat Face boots? They look nice and the salesgirl at the Dublin shop is so friendly, but will they hold up?

And what is a better color for matching lots of things -- black or brown?

Oh! And should I wait for after Christmas sales?

TIA!

Clarks have massive sale on now - saw some lovely boots in there today.... hurry!!!
Everyone seems to have Sales on already!!

Isaidkissmeunderthemistletoe · 09/12/2008 14:33

My clarks boots have been very good.
I prefer black, but that's cos i never wear brown / beige / etc.

Well DublinMom, where's fatface in dublin then? Not that i ever get beyond the dundrum shopping centre these days. They have schuh, office and Clarkes all within a stones throw of eachother! SHOE shangrila!

I say BLACK! I've never been a fan of brown. I always feel like poo in brown! Very middle-aged. Loads of fifty something women walking their dogs wear brown. Steer clear. I would go for black or navy or grey. Never brown. Just a personal aversion.

What size are your feet? if you are a tiny size 37 or a massive 41 wait for the sales! If you have feet size 38 or 39 definitely do NOT wait for the sales!

Post a link to the fat face boots you're considering!

Brown if they're a casual style, black for formal.

dexter73 · 09/12/2008 17:00

I have massive feet (8) and there is never anything good left by the time the sales are on! I think they buy less of the large sizes so you have to buy them quickly or they are gone.
I am on the look out for a nice brown pair of boots as I have black but they don't go with everything.
Clarks are very good as are Fat Face but Clarks have already started their sale.

Fatface is on Lwr Gardiner street I think, just off Grafton Street. The boots I like are {{http://www.fatface.com/bin/venda?ex=co_wizr-productgrid&bsref=fatface&step=shopcartmulti&invt=2144 8&ordercol=alphanu&layout=productdetail}} (did that link work? It's my first time trying a link)

Feet are size 6, which seems regular to me. I just popped in to Clarks on the way home and tried on size 6 boot that was 50% off... but apparantly I have fat calves, because I couldn't get any to zip up!

Feeling shocked and bummed about that now. DH said 'I never thought your calves were fat' {angry}

I don't know what it is with boots not zipping up over calves, I know I@m not fat and I've had trouble with boots not zipping up over my calves too! AND I'm small too, so people who would be the same build but taller would be equally not fat but would have bigger calves, so where the heck do they buy their boots?

Lower gardiner street, off talbot street? I wouldn't go there! not even for shoes

NowICanSpellGeansaiNollaig · 09/12/2008 18:36

i surprise myself by liking these fatface boots very pepsi and shirley wham days though

those fat face boots are fab, they are very casual so I think they look best in brown which goes best with jeans IMHO

black looks better in a high-heeled or more dressy boot

dublinmom · 10/12/2008 10:59

NowICanSpell... FatFace is on Exchequer street, not Gardiner street. DOn't know what I was thinking!

those fatface boots are lovely (the OP's)
definitely get them now, there won't be any left when the sale's on
Clarks do sometimes do wide boots for us with fat calves but I think this yr they just have adjustable ones..which I hate as it's so obvious if you have the straps let out to the loosest point.
I did manage to get a lovely pair of clarks wide fitting ones from ebay though.

Sazisi · 10/12/2008 19:24

They are really nice, might have to get some myself!

Dublinmom, how much were they in the Dublin store? I'm thinking it might be cheaper to order them online with current exchange rate

dublinmom · 10/12/2008 20:09

Haven't been in to the Dublin store recently. They might not even be in stock. Would it be cheaper even with shipping cost?

Sazisi · 10/12/2008 22:33

I just checked on xe.com, and £101 (ie £93 + £8 delivery) = 114.82 euros
I've been to the Dublin store (I live here too ) and think they'd probably be selling them for more
I'd have to go in to try them on/check them out first anyway; I was admiring them before in the catalogue, but not sure about the extra zip?
