Comfy, yet glamorous, evening shoes needed for heavily pregnant party goer

Title says it all really. I have a very important party to go to when I will be 8 months pregnant. I have a dress - full length, chocolate brown - and now need shoes. They need to be pretty flat and comfy - I can't do heels at the best of times!

Was thinking about gold sandals or ballet pumps? Any suggestions, not really best season for looking for these styles, everything in shops seems to be delicate, towering stilletos which I don't think will take the strain I would put on them!

Ooh, I don't have any links to hand but there have been loads of magazine articles recently about how "party flats" are the new heels! There are lots of pretty jewelled flats out there. Have you tried Banana Republic? Or LK Bennett? Don't know what your budget is but I'm sure there are some cheaper options out there too.

I had real trouble wearing ballet pumps when pregnant, I don't know if it was because my centre of balance was off or something but they always slipped off or I tripped on them.

Gold leather thing type sandals could be nice, but not very 'this season' so may be hard to find.

Clarks website have some jewelled bronze ballet pumps in the sale...

here

KristinaM · 09/12/2008 14:27

i woudl go for a small chunky heel and a strap to hold them on. unless your feet are swollen and the strap might cut in. and ballet pumps are easier to get on

is this your first baby? just asking coz if it is then whatever you buy might not fit you later

Daffodilly · 09/12/2008 15:27

Thanks for the ideas. The Dune ones look pretty good. Good point about ballet shoes, they may not be the best bet as I struggle to keep them on under normal circumstances. Not my first baby, but still not sure if I will wear again so I don't want to spend lots.

Just tried the dress on for the first time (was lent to me by my cousin) and I'm not entirely convinced it is me - mind you nothing looks exactly fab at the moment. Might have to start all over from head to toe!

Evans do wide fitting shoes. For example:

Sorry to hear that you are not keen on the dress, Daffodilly. How about this dress in the Mamas and Papas sale or perhaps try ebay for Formes etc?

Good luck!

missblythe · 09/12/2008 17:02

gold sandals

more flats

Daffodilly · 09/12/2008 18:34

Oh great suggestions. Like the second M&P dress a lot - I wouldn't normally go for black, but that is really nice. Do you think black is still slimming at 8 mths pg???

Wonder if it would look OK with flats?

Number two is my favourite too (and I was impressed by the price). It would look fine with flats I think. I bet you will look lovely even if you don't feel it.

KristinaM · 09/12/2008 22:37

daffodilly - sorry NOTHING is slimming at 8 months pg. the only consolation you have is that you are WAY past the stage of just looking fat

i wore this dress to a black tie function when i was 8 months pg . with medium height black heels , although i think gold would have been nicer

KristinaM · 09/12/2008 22:39

i love the second M&P dress to but it woudlnt work for me as i have huge norks so need a dress that comes in under the bust. even when i am pg i still dont want to look like i am wearing a tent
