Red duffle coat for a two year old girl

I know its not really style or beauty but didn't know where else to post. My mum wants to get my DD a red duffle coat for christmas and I can't find one I like. The one in next looks like it wouldn't be warm enough. There is a gorgeous one in Zara but it is in the 0-2 years section and too small. There is one in Jojo Bebe but it has ot blue lining and I don't want that (I know, I'm fussy). Any others anyone has seen? Budget up to £30 ish.

I would have hated it as a child too probably! In fact I had an embroidered one made by my friends mum when I was five. My mum loved it but I refused to wear it because someone at school told me I looked stupid in it my poor mums friend!

Ds is 5 (today!) and DD is 10. Can't imagine a 10 yr old in one these days. They were all the rage when I was young. A duffel was your winter coat, everyone had one.

Fircone - arf. That was my first thought, but am too polite to post .

wilbur · 09/12/2008 15:08

And actually, I think it was a raincoat...

Oh happy birthday to your DS! Well I love them, I think my mum wants DD to wear one partly out of nostalgia. She is set on red too, there is a purple one in Debenhams that I loved but, nope, has to be red. I went to my first (and only) Boden sale in September and am still kicking myself that I didn't buy a dark purple duffle coat there, it was only about £20 I don't know why I didn't get it!

What is it wilbur? Is it a film thing?

Um, yes, Don't Look Now is a fab and quite scary film, where [SPOILER ALERT!] Donald Sutherland gets horribly murdered by a dwarf wearing a red coat.

wilbur · 09/12/2008 15:21

I have checked and it's NOT a duffel though .

used2bthin · 09/12/2008 15:25

Oh LOL! Want to see it now!

It's usually on tv pretty late at night as it has a v explicit sex scene in it (not involving red coats in any way). Great film, I recommend it.

And your dd will look gorgeous in a spanking new duffel - I love pretty coats on little girls.

Thanks Wilbur if I can find one! Looked in TK maxx today but nothing suitable. I'm hoping to get to another place about half an hour away later this week so may be able to try H and M. GAP doesn't seem to have anything, they are usually the place I go to for special things ah well.

LOL, I thought "don't look now" too - maybe a few of us are showing our age

used2bthin · 09/12/2008 20:14

Ooh I must be very young then as had never heard of it! Want to watc it now though

My mum just bought a half price dark pink duffel coat for one of my dds. It was £15!!!! Looks gorgeous. From woolies i think, it is ladybird.

used2bthin · 09/12/2008 20:45

Oh thanks saramoon I will look on thier site. My mum is very set on red though, when I showed her the Jojobebe one in dark pink she said oh no has to be red! Its looking stupidly difficult though so worth a try!

the red one with dotty lining from next is gorgeous...i'm planning to buy it for my dd in the morning!

used2bthin · 09/12/2008 20:50

I will look at it tomorrow if I go past Next I think, it just doesn't look very thick in the picture and I wanted something padded really. May be warmer than it looks though. It is very sweet.

you're probably right, maybe not that thick. Thankfully dd has a fab cosy hand on one so this is an extra. (plus it's dry clean only which let's face it is a bit silly for a toddler coat, but I'm ignoring this fact!!)

used2bthin · 09/12/2008 20:51

Just noticed it is dry clean only! So probably not much good. Althugh maybe they all would be.
