OK. Dressing like your child is wrong, wrong, wrong.

But does anyone know where I could get an adult version of the 3/4 sleeve jacket shown here? Ideally in leaf green of light blue.

Be gentle ... please.

Hmm, have you tried Kew? Or Monsoon? They stock that type of style.

zenandtheartofbaking · 08/12/2008 20:55

Kew's not quite "swooshy" enough these days. And Monsoon - something odd has happened to Monsoon.

Alas, my desired jacket is lingering in the slipstream of Kew.

Good suggestions though, many thanks.

Can you sew? Do you know someone who sews? This Vogue pattern seems very close to what you want (especially the mid-sleeve version).

toast silk velvet jacket
is the closest thing I can think of. Otherwise if you are a size 10 you could always buy the Jigsaw age 12/13...

I bought a childrens jacket from Zara last month for myself as I preferred the styling to the grown up stuff - the assistant says there are quite a few secretly doing this.

barking · 08/12/2008 22:28

saltwater do a lovely green jacket, I can't link to it properly but it's the velvet short jacket middle right in moss.

Thank you Barking and Bocca.

Bocca, yes I can sow, and I've been sitting thinking I might well resort to the sewing machine, so many, many thanks for that - do you think they'll have it in John Lewis? It does look v. v. similar. I'm absolutely delighted and amazed you found that. Thank you again.

Barking - yes, I saw the toast one, but it's a sort of denim jacket cut and the (child's) jigsaw jacket is more opera jacket/morning coat style.
Funny you should say that about squeezing into the child's size. I went looking for it in a size 12/14 with just that intention - but couldn't find it.
You do cheer me up with the image of you in zara, guiltily trying on the kids' stuff and being reassured by the assistant.
As long as it's not just me, I feel far, far better.

Barking - that's great! And i don't have to sew it!

Honestly - mn is amazing.

I would never have found it in a million years.

Thank you!

I've just remembered that sketch when Julie Walters and Victoria Wood talk about the very short lady that bought childrens clothes and spent the VAT on tequila

zenandtheartofbaking · 08/12/2008 22:44

I love victoria Wood - yes, I know that puts me right there on the sofa with my mum - but I've not seen that one. i'll try googling it.

Thank you!

Zen - You're very welcome! I'm sure John Lewis stock Vogue patterns but (a recent discovery for me) there are websites - including the one I linked to - where you can buy them online. It's an easy pattern so it should be straightforward and you would be able to choose your own gorgeous fabric and trimmings. (I noticed it's unlined: if you're worried about warmth, you could make your own pattern for the lining - I once found an article in a sewing magazine which gave instructions on how to do this).

I'm now tempted to have a go myself!

zenandtheartofbaking · 08/12/2008 22:51

Thank you Bocca - I'll check out the internetty thingy.

I'm v. v. short - (tequila lady is clearly me) - but you may have noted the word squeeeeezzzzze in my descriptions of child-clothes-trying-on adventures!

Zen - But even with a lot of squeezing I couldn't contemplate buying childreen's clothes, alas.

barking · 08/12/2008 23:17

I've been busy trying to find that sketch on youtube, no luck as yet but side-winding thermal body belts.....
yes!

BoccaDellaNativita · 08/12/2008 23:45

Bliss!

zenandtheartofbaking · 09/12/2008 00:03

That was great!

Simplicity have lots of patterns and you can order them online.

Thank you Barking, for showing me Saltwater - never heard of them before and such lovely things ( and nice to see they have sold out of some, so can't be too affected by recession)
