Advice please for a Christmas party this weekend!

Hi all,

I am due to go to a Christmas party on Saturday eve with my dh for his work Christmas party. It is at the local racecourse, and held by an events company. It is a Monte Carlo theme, so a 3 course meal with casino tables, jazz quartet, entertainment etc. The dress code is 'Smart Dress Preferred - no Jeans or Trainers please'

Now, I have a problem in that I don't know what to wear! I've just startted back at Weight Watchers recently because I'm feeling very uncomfortable in my appearence at a size 14.

Here are my choices- a black knee length dress, cut under the bust, crepey/pleated fabric. Downside- it is sleeveless and my arms are very chunky. I'd have to wear something over the top to feel comfortable. This is the 'dressiest' dress.

The other option is a satin smock mini dress with short, cuffed sleeves. I feel really comfortable in this dress and I'd wear it wiht brown tights and heeled brown shoes. However, it has a very bold, swirly pattern in brown, green, blue and mink- so I feel it is less dressy. I wore it to a wedding last winter with knee high brown boots and felt fab!

Due to the nature of the evening- what would you wear? Which should I choose? Is a print acceptible on a smart dress?

Any advice please?

Go with the print one; it makes you feel fab and you won't need to have to buy/find something to wear over the top of it. Tis a no-brainer imho!

That's the way I'm thinking janeite- the only thing is, I'm worried that the print is not dressy enough! I wish I had a picture to put up!
