I need MORE help. MORE I tell you. How do I wear this dress now I've got it?

I bought this in slate.

It's lovely and quite flattering.

I sort of thought I'd wear it with trousers, erm, and birkenstocks... err... I hadn't really thought it through. Now I'm not sure because it's t-shirt material so would be all lumpy over trews.

Need instructions for hot weather (am blowing this joint next week and heading off to live in the sun).

Need instructions that allow for the fact that I HATE HATE HATE my lower legs. What about straight cropped trousers?

And I don't really do heels much. I used to but now I'm a frump who dresses for comfort and running after small children.

would you wear it over leggings?

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 19:52

What colour leggings? What length?

OP posts:
pgwithnumber3 · 04/12/2008 19:54

you say you bought the slate colour, do they have a pic of the slate one? Maybe some dark grey leggings?

pgwithnumber3 · 04/12/2008 19:55

I too do not like my lower legs and never really wear dresses so would 100% wear leggings underneath it.

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 19:55

Yes, the slate one is there too. It's greyish with turquoise bits.

how hot?

will you really be able to wear trousers underneath in this tropical paradise you are going to live in?

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 20:10

Middle east. So probably not.

Right. Long leggings would be wrong and too hot. 3/4 leggings would just end of the fattest bit of my calf. Is there such a thing as between-3/4-and-long-length leggings?

pgwithnumber3 · 04/12/2008 20:12

Ankle length!

Pannacotta · 04/12/2008 20:13

I would wear it with bare legs and put loads of fake tan on them to make them look healthy and slim. Also think pretty sparkly flip flops (plus painted toe nailes) will distract from your pins, yet are comfortable.
Leggings will be too hot in the heat.

harpomarx · 04/12/2008 20:15

have you got it yet, broccoli? is it very clingy? could you possibly wear it with floaty lightweight trousers. Not too wide, or they would look v strange. ime this style is much easier to wear in hot weather than leggings which I think are horrible in the heat.

christmasBarbielovesSanta · 04/12/2008 20:16

linen trousers? its bloody boiling over there at the mo! where abouts are you going? im moving to dubai in jan and im going to live in linen trousers....

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 20:50

Dubai too.

I suppose it will be better with a tan. What about some low wedges?

Harumph.

I want to simultaneously introduce dresses into my wardrobe and never ever show my legs.

OP posts:
christmasBarbielovesSanta · 04/12/2008 20:53

low wedges good, have you been to dubai before? I tend to wear linen under the dresses as the guys stare! gulp! gotta get used to it i suppose....but then im sure after a few months in the sun we might get a tan and want to get our legs out
Where abouts are you going to be based? im sat looking at mn and apartments at the same time

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 21:41

Springs, probably. I've never been, no. Will you be working out there?

OP posts:

christmasBarbielovesSanta · 04/12/2008 21:54

the springs is a good place for kids, totally safe and full of ex pats....the womens beach is also not too far and safe for the kids to play at, and now leering men!

apuppydaviesisforlife · 04/12/2008 22:02

knee length dresses over wide leg trousers looks fine imho. i have some from white stuff that are lightweight jersey with a drawstring waist - no pockets or waistband to add bulk - for wearing under dresses. if i remember the name i'll post it up - i found mine nwt on ebay for a fiver or so.

BroccoliSpears · 04/12/2008 22:04

Trousers specifically for wearing under dresses? They sound GREAT. Details?! Link?! I must know more.

white stuff's website is playing me up tonight, but it's their dolce pant. worth keeping an eye out in sale or ebay cos they're pretty pricey but i have them in blue and brown and have got loads of wear out of them cos i love dresses.

christmasBarbielovesSanta · 04/12/2008 22:17

broccli dont go without looking me up first, we fly out on the 8th, we could be neighbours fab shop in mall of the emirates, dead cheap and they do loads of trousers for under dresses, bottom floor, left mall, far end!
