I am having a sudden urge to get rid of all my clothes and start again. Advice on capsule wardrobe please?

I am useless at shopping and putting things together and had been random buying for ages. Nothing matched and I hardly wore any of it and so have been steadily ebaying and charity shop-donating until my wardrobe is almost empty. I am trying to start afresh with some basics I will actually wear. The bits I have salvaged are as follows:

1 x pair of 7 jeans
1 x Gap black trousers (smartish)
1 x Uniqlo black cord skirt, knee length
1 x Boden denim skirt, knee length
1 x Boden blue spotty cord skirt, above knee
1 x Hobbs black calf length wool pencilly type skirt
1 x Hobbs cream satin shirt
1 x M&S white cotton shirt
1 x black TU long sleeved top
1 x Boden parisienne t shirt in blue/grey
1 x navy Laura Ashley long sleeved top
1 x Boden tank (blue / grey stripes)
1 x long navy Jigsaw wrap cardigan/coat
1 x short Jigsaw cashmere mix cardigan
1 x grey Laura Ashley tunic thin sweater with cowl neck
2 x LBDs (one velvet shift and one silky type number)
1 x long black wool winter coat
1 x pink tweedy medium length winter coat
1 x Boden blue patterned raincoat

Plus assorted hosiery/ scarves/ shoes etc etc. Have not listed my 'scruffy' clothes (slouchy Gap jersey pants/ tops etc)

Does this sound ok, anything missing.../ Any suggestions for useful extras? Thanks

sahm?

wohm?

smart?
casual?

have you shoes and boots for all the above?

IMO you need basic tops ie long or 3/4 sleeved tees and shirts

ilovejonty · 03/12/2008 14:12

1 x long brown boots.
1 x short black patent boots.
An avalanche of shoes (too numerous to list and could not be parted!) Most styles and colours.

Unless you're very confident about which colours and shapes suit you best I would def advise you to have a colour consultation. I had one last Feb and have been sol focussed since, I can rule out all black, white, blue, pink, etc 'cause they don't suit so I don't waste money on them. Now all my stuff goes together and I only buy stuff that I love not just like. Also beads and jewellery is a big thing for me, really jazzes up plain stuff.

oh yes, if you are a Bad Shopper having your colours done will help

it focuses you - I can now walk into a shop, scan, then either home in on the rigth things or just walk out again if it is all black and grey

Any other suggestions?

how much does having your colours done cost?

Flutterbye · 07/12/2008 21:24

Mine was about £80 for an hour or two, i had an independent one on recommendation, she was very good and friendly too. They can also go through your wardrobe, be your personal shopper, etc but costs do mount up.

Thanks
