Handcreams- again!

Any good ideas?

I am currently using Vaseline Intensive care which is quite nice but a bit runny.

I have just finished a tube of Clarins- I like it but in the winter feel I need more and am not sure about the smell...love/hate thing.

My hands are not chapped, but they are quite lined due to eczema years back, so I need something to plump them up, smooth them out and make them look younger too!

Have used Atrixo for years too but it's a bit sticky. Would pay up to £10 for something lovely, but would prefer around the £3 mark!

I'm quite liking the Boots No 7 one. I think it's about a tenner but they often do vouchers to get £5 off.

DoubleBluff · 02/12/2008 20:37

AVEENO is nice not just a hand cream, but lovley

DoubleBluff · 02/12/2008 20:38

and soap and glory 'hand food' is gorgeous. I love hand creams!!

Clairef29 · 02/12/2008 20:44

Hmm, a bit over budget but absolutely fantastic is Clinique Water Therapy Moisture Glove. If you get it when its on bonus time you very often get a decent sized tube of it as a freebie so thats when I usually stock up!! Beats Clarins hands down; my Mum swears by it to!!!

MrsThierryHenry · 02/12/2008 20:46

L'Occitane do a fabulous shea butter one. V pricey, but then if you're a Clarins girl you probably won't mind. Fab for winter - all thick and soothingly yummy.

honestfriend · 02/12/2008 20:46

Sounds good- I am a Clinique fan - in fact I think I bought that for a friend but never tried it myself!

Ooh you should, it really is fab. Even helps my dermatitis when everything else irritates it. Thibk its about £15 a tube but its worth every penny and a little goes a long way!

BirdyArms · 02/12/2008 20:50

At the risk of sounding like a mumsnet cliche I thoroughly recommend Waitrose Bottom Butter. Quite greasy but absorbs quickly.

missblythe · 02/12/2008 20:54

I'm all about the Clarins, but if I'm having a budget week, the Body Shop Almond Oil is good, and also smells deliciously cakey.

Neutrogena is the cheapie always recommended by fellow MNers though.

janeite · 02/12/2008 20:54

I really don't like the smell of the Clinique one; it smells (forgive me) a bit "sheepy" imho.

Norwegian formula - names escapes me - yep, you know the one I mean. It is marvellous.

honestfriend · 02/12/2008 20:59

some great ideas.

anyone tried REN, Dr HAuschka?

I love REN skincare but need to be convinced to spend £££s on hand stuff- the Clarins was a present and lasted ages, I have also used Origins ( present again) which is nice but very sticky- more a bed time hand cream.

I also want a SMALL tube that can go into my hand bag for top ups!

This is lovely! It smells of oranges and is a very good consistency, not too thick but not at all runny.

honestfriend · 02/12/2008 21:00

I bought Neutrogena Norwegian last week and got the one with sunscreen LOL in December??0 buti does have an odd smell........

honestfriend · 02/12/2008 21:01

wow! I can't keep up- they are all going on my Xmas list.

Cadelaide · 02/12/2008 21:01

Yes, Neutrogena, the only one to have.

Clairef29 · 02/12/2008 21:03

SHEEPY!!!!!! he he he, never heard that description of it before!! I find that it doesn't really smell of anything much! The DR Hauschka rose hand cream is lovely but very perfumed and even though its naturally scented I still find it a little overpowering. Oh yes and DH says it reminds him of old ladies!!! .......Apologies if any old ladies are reading this!

Swedes · 02/12/2008 21:05

honestfriend - That's the one. Neutrogena, thank you.

I though Dr hauschka stuff was terribly expensive...... I used to buy their Rose face cream but have gone back to blue nivea at night and Nivea Soft during the day.

Clairef29 · 02/12/2008 21:09

Grrrrr, was just looking at the lovely weleda one posted by bluebump when surprise surprise "fragrance" is on the list of ingredients. I have just been patch tested by the dermatology unit and the results are that I am allergic to "fragrance" or "parfum" so I am now destined for a fragrance free life!

janeite · 02/12/2008 21:09

I used to use a lovely rose scented bath oil, until dp said it smelled of old ladies. Bah!

I apologise re: the sheep - but that's what it reminds me of. Maybe it has lanolin (sp?) in it?

Clairef29 · 02/12/2008 21:22

S'ok, no need to apologise! We are all entitled to our own opinions! And I think everyones noses smell things differently. One of my favourite perfumes of all time is Cerrutti 1881 but my sis hates it and says I smell of carrots when I wear it!! Oh well she won't need to worry anymore! Double bah to DP's, what do they know anyway??!!

EachPeachPearMum · 02/12/2008 21:26

I am allergic to Neutrogena!
I love the Clarins one though- it is excellent.

Benjy · 02/12/2008 21:54

The best handcream I have used is one I've been prescribed. I have eczema and was given Diprobase by my doctor. It is an emollient without any possible allergens and is what medics etc, use to moisturise in between all the handwashing they do. It is excellent and the only cream that has never irritated my skin. In addition, it is available over the counter for just over £2 a tube. Unbeatable imo.

zoopas · 04/12/2008 22:29

By far the best handcream I have ever used is Virgin Vie's Happy Hands cream. It is absorbed very easily and softens your hands beautifully. It isn't sticky at all and smells lovely. Go on the Virgin Vie website for more details, pretty sure it's around £7 (definitely not over £10)!
