can anyone recommend a home-dye-kit to sort dark roots out? can't afford the time or cash for Aveda salon colour every 6 wks anymore! did a test with the lightest colour clairol root touch up kit, but was too dark - i'm nearer gwyneth paltrow than gwen stefani in terms of blondness. Going natural with my own colour is not an option. Any ideas?

Can you try another salon? Mine are fab and only charge £30

Im sure there are great colours on the market but im a wimp and wouldnt go there!!

I hope a hairdresser comes along soon.

What about L'oreal coleur experte - reduced to £7.63 or thereabouts in tesco and boots.

They do all shades including a light blonde.

Or you can simply buy a garnier highlighting kit for about £5 if your base colour is OK.

Haven't been to the salon for roots or highlighting for years

Liking the sound of garnier highlighing kit, base colour is fine, dont want to go over that with dye, just need bleachy type stuff for roots. cheers wintercitylover, will have a crack at it.

I just used this on my hair as I couldn't justify paying money at a salon this month. I have really dark brown hair and it lifted it to the blonde of my salon highlights as it's 13/14% peroxide, I was really impressed. It says it's £5.99 on the website but i've seen it for £3.99 in store.

CharleeInPantoPaperChains · 02/12/2008 16:12

I used a Garnier Nutrise one it was £1.60 from Tesco and worked really well!

I tried a DIY roots touch up and it was a disaster - horribly mismatched blobs of yellow. Had to pay to get it sorted out. I would say find a cheaper salon - maybe local? It should be easy for them to match your colour.

You could always try a local college, they take quite a long time but are supervised and at least it's 'proper' stuff.

thanks for all your suggestions, have never used chat forums before and am well impressed with the wealth of knowledge out there - wish i'd thought of using this for baby advice in the early days of motherhood - but hey, having nice hair is nearly as important! Have to sign off now as have just smashed the LCD screen on my laptop. Aaagh. That along with the digibox packing up today has just about put the tin lid on it.
