Help! "Emo" clothes for a 13 year old boy - where from?

My DS is just 13 and probably a bit below average size judging by his classmates. Over the last few months he has become really image conscious. For years I have been buying rip curl/quiksilver/O'Neill but he now claims to loathes these clothes and he is getting really anguished about it.

He wanted skinny black jeans. At eye watering cost I got a pair from Replay which did for a while. Then they weren't drainpipe enough. He's now wearing ladies size 6 jeans from primark which are satisfactorily tight, although rather long.

He now wants hoodies that are simulataneously emo and for a skater. He seems to know what he means, but I don't. I have scoured the internet without coming up with the goods. I think what makes it harder is there is no way that he could wear even an XS man's top without it drowning him and after years of bagginess things apparently need to be fitted.

He goes to an all boys school, but has a joint disco with the girls school next week. We have to find something by then or life will not be worth living. If things get desperate enough we could go shopping in Leeds or Manchester - I think Corn Exchage or Afflecks might yield something? However for different reasons we're both eager to avoid that. So, can any of you help me out with something online, please?

My 11 year old likes that style of clothing. H&M is his favourite - he has skinny blue jeans from there, plus various black and grey striped/checked tops.

He loves VANS (TKMaxx/eBay) and Duffs (TKMaxx).

We've not been lucky anywhere else.

Thanks for all the suggestions. There are a couple of possibilities on new look which would at least be cheap if I get it wrong! I'm off to the hairdressers now but will check again later.

Not sure how I managed to post that again!

Curlywurlycremeegg I did grow up in Mcr and remember the Mcr Corn Exchange but knew it had gone, although have seen many emos hanging out in that general area (on my way past to Harvey Nicks). There is actually a Corn Exchange in Leeds (v similar establishment) that as far as I know is still operational and that was my second possibility.

I do remember the underground market - take it that is gone as well?! Was just talking about Identity (the shop not a Northern pride thing) to a fellow mancunian at work the other day, maybe they would have been good. Think my main problem is the tinyness of my 13 year old as basically anywhere that sells clothes for adults is probably no good.

Just an update. I got DS an age 11/12 plain black hoodie in Primark last week which did as a temporary measure and only cost £4! I managed to get into H&M this week when I was working near one, only had a few mins as on work's time, but asked a lovely shop assistant to pick out a couple of hoodies that would be appropriate for an 13 year old emo wannabe. It looked like there was loads of potential stuff for him. She picked me out a couple of things which hopefully will keep DS happy until we have time to go shopping together. They were only £12.99 each (and then some vat got taken off although I didn't think it would apply on childrens clothes). I think this emo phase may save me a fortune as I'm not used to his clothes costing so little.

Urban Outfitters.

Can't do link for website but they do do e-mail.

Get him some hair straighteners for Christmas and he will love you forever.

themoon66 · 05/12/2008 14:29

I'd say Corn Exchange Leeds tbh.

Or have you tried Leeds market?

mysteryfairy · 05/12/2008 14:32

Lol Colditz

He uses my GHDs at the moment and wouldn't settle for anything cheaper so we'll have to carry on sharing.

He had a "girlfriend" this summer and their main interaction was her straightening his hair. (At least I hope it was!)

Living in London (like me) means you have access to Camden Market. All Emo/Grungey needs covered there. Just get the tube down there one day. Also you can bargain with stool owners.

And Camden has a certain 'happy' atmosphere around christmas time so it's the best time to go.

Alternatively Covent Garden have some trendy men shops.

Or like already suggested Topshop and H&M. If you want to pay for something special go to Urban Outfitters (they sell Replay jeans) or All Saints.
