I've been to several 'lounge suits' events at the Grosvenor.
For women, it's very much open to interpretation.
Ladies tend to turn up in dresses which aren't quite black tie notch, but very smart, so you can get away with getting something from Top Shop rather than a designer number. No short cocktail dresses. Samantha from Sex and the City was at one do and she wore a long sequin dress that was backless and she was definitely the best dressed woman there.

It's really a phrase to give the option for men not to have to go black tie.

In other words normal suits and ties for men, smart dress or skirt/top or trouser suit for women. Not black tie.

will the black dress on my profile be okay? it's chloe, very plain at the front but has a cut-out back so quite dramatic and a bit sexy from the back (but not OTT)

Or is too short?

Looks fine

I was going to post the same question this afternoon - not the same event though!

I'm a bit disappointed as the dress code last time was black tie. I know I'll end up wearing something I wear to work - black wrap dress or black shift, probably.

I have a lovely calf length purple velvet dress that I'd love to wear. I got away with it at another event last week because it was a very broad dress code and some people were in black tie.

I think calf length purple velvet would be fine for an evening event even not black tie. The only thing that probably needs reserving for black tie is a really floor sweeping gown.

top tip as people keep asking me this lately - wear something you wear for work (black frock, trouser suit for example) but with skimpier/shinier top underneath and more jewellry - job done.
