Long curly hair in need of a makeover..HELP

I have had long brown curly hair for a very long time. It used to be my crowning glory, but it's time i faced facts...fuzzy short bits around the hairline, wiry grey bits, a bad home colour every couple of months, and my face is just ageing too much to keep tying it back.

I need a really good cut, maybe shoulder length, that is short enough not to have to tie back.

Has any one got any pics of good curly cuts?
I'd really appreciate any ideas.

Watching this one eagerly, as I'm exactly the same as you right now.

MadreInglese · 19/11/2008 12:54

I always thought Connie off Holby City had lovely short curly hair, but I can't find a nice pic of it on google

ByTheSea · 19/11/2008 12:55

I'm another one in the same boat. Also watching...

MadreInglese · 19/11/2008 12:57

this kind of thing or are you curlier?

MrsWalton · 19/11/2008 12:58

Hi thequietone,
Anytime i've felt like this before and had a cut that is a little bit 'radical' i've ended up regretting it.

I'm even prepared to go for a proper colour if i got a great cut. I have resisted for years to fork out so much money on a colour that i have to keep getting done.

This morning i have gotten into my pre-pregnancy jeans for the first time (dd now nearly 2.5!!!) If i had the hair to go with, i'd be a new woman!!

this shape is nice

MrsWalton · 19/11/2008 13:02

OOh Madre that's very short. Face not quite up to that. I suppose i'd be a bit curlier than that. I don't watch Holby city unfortunatly. Thanks anyway.

Anymore. Or anyone who took the plunge and can give me a positive story!

go to Toni&guy and have a look through their catalogues, they will do a grand job!
i get my hair done there,i also have long curly hair, and im always happy when i leave.
of course im not atall biased because my son is a T&G stylist in training!!!

MadreInglese · 19/11/2008 13:02

or this one?

MrsWalton · 19/11/2008 13:03

Still like no 2 best. I'm afraid i'll end up looking like a lollypop. The shorter my hair the wider it seems to go.

MadreInglese · 19/11/2008 13:07

tatty layers & a fringe?

MadreInglese · 19/11/2008 13:10

I know what you mean about lollipop head, mine is wavy and really thick and as much as I loved it in a short bob it was such a faff to constantly style.

MrsWalton · 19/11/2008 13:11

That's more me. (or i'd like to think so) Lots of great sites there too Madre, i'm going to make note and have a cruise through tonite.

Maybe i could discuss f..f..fringe with the girl who normally does my hair.

Remember to post your before & after pics

MadreInglese · 19/11/2008 13:15

My hairdresser has a fab tool which is like scissors where the blades are like comb-tooth razors IYSWIM, they are FAB for taking weight out of thick or curly hair.

TrillianA · 19/11/2008 13:19

If you have a regular hairdresser that helps a LOT - she'll know what your hair does and how much it will spring up, remember shorter = curlier because there's less weight to drag it down = even shorter than you expected.

Fringe... Hmm... Only if it's not too curly. You don't want corkscrews on your forehead.

Good luck!

MrsWalton · 19/11/2008 13:27

Madre, comb tooth thing has kept me happy for a while now, were a revelation when she first used them, just got this itch for a new style. Maybe i just need another of my normal cut with them. It's been a while since i had it done. Thanks so much for helping me work this out.

I will do you a favour and NOT be putting either before or after pics!!! I prefer going to the dentist than the hairdresser, so exposing to all makes me shudder as much as the mention of the fringe!!

TrillianA very good point about the curly fringe, will discuss with the scissor wealding nymph that cuts my hair.

Thanks

Trillion has a point about the fridge if you are very curly, you'd need to be prepared to faff with styling/straightening it every day.

I had long brown curly hair until Tuesday and I had lots chopped off! It looks like the 2nd pic that Madre posted and I love it. It is really easy as all I need to do when i have washed it is rub a bit of curl cream through.

MrsWalton · 19/11/2008 19:35

dexter,
any chance of a before and after photo from you?

OP posts:
bitofadramaqueen · 20/11/2008 18:56

MrsWalton you sound like me! Was feeling the same as you and had my hair cut today. Just my usual style, but so much better for a decent cut.

If you've not had it done for a while I'd recommend going back for your normal cut - if you're still unhappy afterwards then you know you do need something different.

Know what you mean about ageing and wearing hair back . Have come to the conclusion that I need to get my hair cut much more regularly than I used to!
