I am slightly dubious but have been over ruled bu DD, DH & my mum

I just want to make sure it is done safely & well

My daughter had her ears done yesterday at Claires and they were very good! Explained everything to her and me, 2 ladies (1 for each ear) they counted to 3 and that was it. Yes it did hurt but she didn't cry and was delighted

DD1 had hers done about x 4 years ago at Claires. They were absolutely fine for a whole year and then-literally-a year after they'd been done, one of them became infected and I was advised by the Doc to let them heal.(don't really think I can blame Claires for this though.)
Had my x 2 dds done this year,Claires again....dd1 had to have hers done close to the original hole but not actually in it as apparently this can cause infection.Anyway, after x 6 weeks, took earrings out and neither girls'ears had healed very well.Cleaned properly, put earrings back in and then found a couple of weeks later whilt cleaning that the earring backs had stiffened and I couldn't get earrings out at all!!!!Hubbie eventually managed....without any tearing thank God! I've now bought x 2 pairs of little gold studs which are a little better but still not healing brilliantly.

i chose not to take my dd to claires for her ears done... didnt like the public staring bit..
so we wnet to a beauty shop which was much more private...

she was 10... and hers have been fine.

My friend's DD (11) has hers done in a local beauty salon at the start of the summer holidays.

I had mine done about 4 years ago in Goldsmiths - mainly because I wanted white gold earrings. It did hurt. I never had any problems though & they are perfectly central in each ear. They did it in the shop there but it wasn't in the window & we were the only people in the shop at the time - I just couldn't face having it done in Claire's in the window when it's so busy. I did pay £21 for it though.

My friend had it done a few months before me in a random shop in town & it cost about £5 and she's had loads of trouble with her ears. Even now they sometimes hurt (although that may down to how she puts them in or the metal I suppose).

18st6...that stiffening doesn't sound unlike how one of DTD2's ears are now....

cutekids · 17/11/2008 21:27

well, yes,i've never known it to happen before...my ears have been pierced for nearly 30 years.it was like the "grooves" in the posts had worn out or something.as i said, went and bought some little gold studs for £7 in Samuels....seems to be a bit better now...although still not what I expected!

I had mine done by gun in Claire's no infections or soreness but even now about 5 years on if I leave an earring out for a day or two the holes will close, so I guess that's what people mean by not healing proerly. If I have another set done I'll have them done with a needle, I wasn't even aware before reading this that you could do that!

JRocks · 19/11/2008 10:21

I always think that having the two gun thing seems a bit dodgy. The risk of them not quite going at the same time so you jump and move slightly, thereby putting one out of place, is a bit scary to me. But it obviously works for hordes of people so I'm probably just being a worry-wart!

I know a lot of beauticians are trained to do piercings, so you could go down that route?

harleyd · 19/11/2008 10:32

oh hell no, get thee to a tattoo and piercing studio, needles all the way
i'll be taking my girls to the one i use, when i finally give in and let them have it done
