i'm six months pregnant and left it far to late to sort out something nice for a posh do tomorrow so thankfully i live near an outlet o
place which has a monsoon. i know they do floaty type clothes and nipped there this morning and trailed around the shop and found this empire style top thankfully it was half price, but the clothes seem incredibly expensive..i'm sure monsoon used to be quite nice...thing is i was desperate and i doubt i'll wear it again. my point? i just though sheesh its all a bit naff.

I only shop there in the sales. And rarely find anything in my size that I like that is left, so have very little Monsoon stuff - but wish I could afford to buy it off-sale! Although last time I was in, there wasn't anything that really appealed, I have to say.

mamaspanx · 10/11/2008 13:24

this was the other thing i nearly got..again half price would i wear it again though?

Different branches tend to have very different stuff. The ranges in my local Monsoon are fairly different from those in the next town. I still only buy in the sale, though.

i love the fit of their stuff. drives me nuts how hard it is to get hold of size 20s though. how do these ebayers who hoover up the stock get it? but i don't think it's particulalry expensive for the quality. the trousers i have from there are lasting me years and years. ditto a great black workwear dress. some of thei twinklier stuff isn't holdin gup so well, but a silk empire line evening top i bought is doing so well that even at 70 quid it's probably the best value thing i ever had.

i think they looked really in fashion during the whole boho trend time, but now things are less boho, clothes are looking more monsoon-ish and less bang on trend, if you get me meaning...

Some of it is lovely and great in the sales. I got a lovely dress for a wedding there (full price for a change) and it really did look nice and I was complimented on it (makes a change!).

the outlet store i go to is pretty big and always has lots of childrens stuff too, you know the cute little woollen cardigans, and there is always a wide range of sizes available.
i wonder why they sell stuff there though that is available oneline at full price, cant see any damage to it

I really like their stuff but only buy in the sales. Quality is not always great, I bought a long grey cardigan recently and two buttons fell off the first time I wore it.

llareggub · 10/11/2008 14:36

I haven't been to the outlet store in a while, but from what I remember it is nothing like the main shops. I'm surprised you were able to get current stock, I wonder if they over-ordered.

I like Monsoon. I think their basics are overpriced, but their dresses, trousers etc fairly reasonable.

samsonara · 10/11/2008 17:17

I buy presents for other people from there including kids clothes but not for my dc, even in the sale because I can't be bothered with the post care of clothes with delicate detailing , fluffiness and embroidered wool and sequins etc.

Liffey · 10/11/2008 19:25

Yes, I like their stuff, but not that much, i haven't bought anything there for a couple of years I think.

Onlyaphase · 10/11/2008 19:31

I like their stuff and it tends to make it through the regular culls in my wardrobe - I think their clothes do last longer than others, and don't date so much either.

Used to have a lot more Monsoon stuff when BIL worked there - staff get a 75% discount!

Hulababy · 10/11/2008 19:33

I shop there for both myself and DD, more so for me. Their clothes seem to fit me very well and I like the style of clothes they make for me. I almost always have very positive comments about clothes I have had from Monsoon, way more than clothes from other stores. Yes, it is dearer than some high streets but not excessively so IME.

I do like their girl's clothes but equally I do think the children's clothes are quite dear, especially for every day wear. DD alsways has party dresses or outfits for Chjristenings/Weddings/ special occasions from there. But I don't often buy her every day items from Monsoon, unless in the sale.

Hulababy · 10/11/2008 19:35

I have always been disappointmented with their Outlet stores.

Andthentherewerethree · 10/11/2008 19:44

the monsoon outlet stores i ahve been to ahev not been very good, portsmouth and york. they seem to eb full of stuff that didn;t sell in store even in teh 75% off sale so why they think it will sell in the outlet store i ahve no idea.

however i do shop there for myself and dd, and used to shop for ds2 but hes too big now, and i buy lots of lvoely cltohes for us both and i haven;t ahd a problem so far wth quality.

mamaspanx · 10/11/2008 19:52

maybe i have unrealistic expectations but the top that i bought today was outragously expensive at its full price for what it is and i wondered if people are happy to pay £65 for a top thats a bit mheeh.

i could well be out the loop though as i haven't bought any 'going out' style clothes in years!

I used to buy loads in the sale shop in Cambridge (now closed alas) but in recent years I have found far less in Monsoon that I like. At one time, just about everything presentable that I owned came from there.
