Help with bridesmaid dresses needed please? Where did you get yours?

What do you think of light in the box?

I really don't want my bridesmaids to spend a lot on a dress they will only wear once but is buying on the net a bad idea? Have you or would you order one?

I've been looking round in wedding dress shops but they are £150-£200 each and my dd's dresses wouldn't be much cheaper.

I've also looked at bhs, debenhams, m&s, monsoon, next, coast etc but they have limited choice, my dd's will be 4 and 10 so would like something a bit more grown up like this?

Colour scheme is blue and brown.

Please Help......?

What about the ones from Hong Kong on Ebay- there are some fab ones. My DD's at a recent wedding was 1p with £26 postage.

this was the 1st one that came up on Ebay and I think its gorgeous and only £30!! Comes in most colours.

suwoo · 09/11/2008 17:24

I bought my DD's for our wedding and the one I mentioned above from Ebay (honh Kong or China) and have no complaints at all. I would not hesitate in buying an adult bridesmaids one either as you provide them with all the measurements. Have a good look on Ebay and just look at all the designs in their 'shops'.

dd is being bridesmaid in a few weeks and the other is older and much bigger so had similar problem. It is a bad time of year to look tbh, can you wait ? Finally found a pair in bhs(they had reductions the other week) but possibly more girly than the style you linked to. The original ones the bride chose were more like that but we found it hard to get both sizes. Sorry can't remember the brand but they were good value dresses, under £50 each.

LIZS · 09/11/2008 18:04

Brand was Couche Tot - similar style to this and looks much nicer in rl than photo.

LoveMyGirls · 09/11/2008 18:05

I think it's too good to be true though? It makes me very suspicious.

I don't need to oder dd's until nearer the time (wedding is sept) but I'd like to get an idea of what I'm looking for and ideally get them ordered by feb.

Thanks for your help.

When do you think is the best time of year to look? I'm thinking if I spend the next few months browsing I could maybe buy them in Jan sales but then it's 9mths til the wedding and I don't want dd's to outgrow them but I could buy them much bigger and have them altered nearer to the time?

We had them to try via a shop and the style the bride wanted was discontinued and reduced from prices around that.

SlubberOverTheYardArm · 09/11/2008 18:10

ebay. gazillions of cream ones on there. Just buy 2 different cream dresses (I bet your 10 yo dd will want a more sophisticated number than her 4 yo sister) and team them together by using matching fabric (for a sash, or one of those mini wrist bags that seem to be v on-small-bridesmaids-trend these days).

I got dd1's dress for £1.50 and recieved compliments galore. I kept quietly smug at my bobby bargainous efforts.

Apparently new stock comes into stores such as bhs, next and debenhams from around February to June. Peak wedding dates are June to Septmeber.

shameless plug but i make bridesmaid dresses! email me at miamla @ hotmail.com if you want to have a chat

Ekka · 09/11/2008 18:30

Got my bridesmaids dresses here but that might be more than you want to spend. We used it because I had bridesmaids from Canada & the UK & there are stockists in several countries so it made getting the dresses easier. There is lots of choice in styles & colours which was great for us, to cater for all the different ages (20, 13, 10) & shapes/sizes....

Here? Too Torquoise?

Or this one HERE

LoveMyGirls · 09/11/2008 19:17

Thanks everyone,

Korma would love to come over to your shop again sometime, I really liked the bridesmaid dress with the brooch on (it was like a mocha colour? Could you get that in blue and long?) Do you have details online I can look at, I've been to that many shops now I'm getting confused! I'm having 3 big bm's (sizes roughly 12-14) and my 2 dd's. If I do get the dresses from you do you have an in house dressmaker to do any alterations they may need and also would they be able to take the hem up on my wedding dress (cheeky I know as I didn't get my dress from you)

This is the dress I went for in the end inspired by my trying on session at your shop [[http://www.pronovias.com/index_entrada.asp?idioma=uk pronovias, page 12)

miamla, I will email when I go on my pc (on dps at the mo) if you don't mind saying on here how much do your prices start from?

Ekka - I did see a AA dress I liked but it is £159 for all sizes and I just can't afford that tbh.

Sawyer - I've seen both of those online and not keen on either, the first is too sparkly and the 2nd is too patterned thanks for looking for me though I really appreciate all the help i can get!

I had mine made - paid about £100 for enough fabric, lining material, thread, zips and two patterns. Bargain!!

stanosauruswrecks · 09/11/2008 19:50

Doh, that was for 3 bridesmaids.

AuntieMaggie · 09/11/2008 19:58

What about finding a picture of the type of design you like and getting someone to make them?

xx

LoveMyGirls · 09/11/2008 20:00

Auntie & Stano - I considered that at one point with my wedding dress but she said the starting cost was £750 so I put the idea out of my mind.

Have emailed you Miamla x

last year at a friends wedding in summer they had the green strapless prom type dresses with beautiful rose bouquets - looked very fresh

Do you have childrens dresses that will go with my dress and the adults dresses?

Will have to see if I can convince one of my bm's that her legs will be fine (she wants to hide them!) or see if your other suggestions would work

I def want to come over for a look as I love your shop and how we were treated. What was your website again?
