Outfit for a 1920s themed party? My dress doesn't look right .

Its a black one I got in monsoon sale, its got sort of pleat things at the bottom and a drop waist but it looks all shapeless on me, maybe I have lost weight or changed shape or something but it now looks too baggy. Is there anything cheap anyone has seen in the shops or online that would look ok for 1920s style? What will I wear for accessories? Headband thing with a feather on? Where would I get one? Any ideas gratefully received!

what about a man's suit like marlene dietrich,
cigarette holder eye liner red lipstick

Dragonbutter · 08/11/2008 20:24

This one from Oli is lovely.

I thinks the 20s style is fairly shapeless though.

There's some accessories ideas on that page too.

Good idea but not sure I can carry it off tbh! Plus I want to look pretty as I have got my eye on someone who may be there I will only know the girl whose party it is and the man in question so need to feel not too over the top iyswim. So I can do lots of eyeliner and red lippy then? That is good I can do that. And have got a cig holder somewhere from last year when I was Audrey Hepburn for a party! And silk gloves?

There is a lovely tuxedo style suit in Primark at the mo - honest!

used2bthin · 08/11/2008 20:31

Thank you Dragonbutter and Baysmum I wonder if Primark is a good bet actually, was in their today and there was a gorgeous dress but it was 1950s style. What do I do with my hair? Just put one of those headbands in if I can find one?

you tube 1920s hair tutorial

there's more tutorials than this and also make up etc.

Dragonbutter · 08/11/2008 20:36

link does this not take you straight to the dress.

it's under dresses/going out dresses/ it's called sequin flapper by s'nob i think.

used2bthin · 08/11/2008 20:37

Thank you Dragonbutter I will have a look, didn't think of you tube

Found the dress yes that would be perfect but too pricey, shame. Lots of other pretty dresses on that site too tempting!

this is quite 20's

this is a bit 20's

this might do

used2bthin · 08/11/2008 20:59

Thanks katymac, the cream one is lovely but I am worried it may be a bit unforgiving on the old curves.

ebay?

used2bthin · 08/11/2008 21:15

OOh that was a good link, some ideas on the same bit too. Will keep an eye on ebay, hard without trying on first but if its really cheap its not so bad. Does anyone know what sort of cover up would be worn?

how was it? any good?

used2bthin · 08/11/2008 22:05

Sorry had a phone call, it is lovely thank you, I was thinking of bidding actually bet I've missed it! Only thing was its a ten and I was worried that it would be too small as h and m are small I think, I got a skirt there last week that I have to return as its too small and its a twelve. That seller had a few bits though.
