Posh eye creams/face creams - all a load of old tosh?

Is the general consensus that they're all the same and you just pay for the brand name? Or are any worth trying? I'm looking for a Xmas gift for my mum who has very puffy/wrinkly eyes and wondered if there was anything that might help. And although this sounds like a bad present ("here you go, here's something to make your awful skin look better" ), she has specifically asked me for this for a present!

How posh and expensive are you prepared to go?

Perhaps with an idea of budget we can all pile in.

cheapish- Liz earle superskin moisturiser and eye serum (get it from QVC, then you can return it if she hates it)

posh and exepensive - Guerlain Issima Night secret - really lovely product

I'm mad with eye cream at the moment - i'm using a Dr Sebagh cream around the eyes and also Prescriptives eye serumon the wrinkles

Also Decleor and Elemis will have sets on QVC for Christmas - I love this because you can send them back within 30 days even if you've used half/all of it - cos you really need to use it for a week to see if it works for you

and the Olay 3 point regenerist cream (£25 ?) is the best rated cream, even up against the £150 ones

Furball · 07/11/2008 17:35

I use dermalogica active moist which online is £22.

I have also bought some Bio Oil and hope to wake up with skin like porcelain tomorrow!

Its not massively expensive, but the No7 Perfect and Protect range is brilliant imo. The serum is around £12.50 and lasts for ages. You use it on the bits where required and then use a regular moisturiser over the top. There is a moisturiser in the same range but don't know how much that costs.

jujumaman · 07/11/2008 18:03

I think you do get a bit more with the fancier creams, but Olay is supposed to be brilliant and so is protect and perfect.

If you want to spend more I used Strixaderm cream round the eyes, it's pretty stinky and comes in very medicalised packaging but I like that! If you want something glossier and posh then Dr Sebagh is fantastic.

I've tried lots, and in very few cases, lots is marketing, but the good ones, they do it!!
In the medium range, Estee Lauder is very good, in the top, LA PRAIRIE, is AMAIZING!!! it cost a "BIT", but it last for ages, a 30ml. night time one, last me for a bit more than 6 months, so at the end, is pretty good value for money, 'cause Elauder last less time. Regarding Elemis, Does anyone notice that is basically the maker of "Champneys"lovely spa range?? you find it at spas or Sainsburys, body product, great, face, really good, face wash, divine, the best I've ever tried, masks, luxurious, in individual doses, so doesn't get off or dried up, have a go!!

Tinkjon · 07/11/2008 18:28

Wow, that's fantastic ladies, some good stuff to go on there, thanks so much. She does love Olay in general so maybe I'll give that one a go.

I think I want something in nice packaging, that looks fancy-schmancy, so will also look at Dr Sebagh.

Hmmm, maybe I should try some of it myself. I've been pretty lucky with my skin so far but am going to be 39 and 13 months soon, so it's not going to last for much longer!

lol, 39 and 13 months

I am 39 and 12 mos. Must remember to use that

cheekysealion · 08/11/2008 05:40

think olay is reduced in sainsburys at the moment, just saw it on there website

Tinkjon · 09/11/2008 17:55

well I bought some of the Olay 3 point Regenerist stuff and some of the Boots Protect & Perfect serum. Boots have a 'spend £15, get £5 off' promotion so I kept buying them one at a time and then going back for the next

Thanks for your help, ladies!
