Help - been summoned to a photoshoot for a company brochure! How on earth should I look?

I'm in a panic! Am coming to the end of 3 years maternity/parental leave and my wardrobe has become quite limited and boring.

We're having individual shots done, make-up artist beforehand etc and I'd like to look at least half-way competent and up-to-date but not trying to hard, IYSWIM....

I have NO idea what to wear. The company is informal so no suits, but what?!

What does the Company do? I'd say you need to wear something appropriate to that, in a brochure for a childcare company you'd look a bit silly in a suit and in one for a Solicitor you'd look daft in jeans!
Whatever you wear for work I'd be tempted to go just a little bit smarter if this is for something to advertise the Company.

Is it a full-length shot or just head and shoulders?

A dress? A sous-pull with a pull-on type dress and boots? Lots of those in the French high street right now, at all price points.

solidgoldbrass · 07/11/2008 11:13

THighboots and fetishwear?
CoF Jesus Is A C**t t-shirt?

Oh sorry did you want to keep the job...?

cmotdibbler · 07/11/2008 11:17

Def depends on what you do, and whether these are full length or just head and shoulders shots. If head and shoulders, you can't really go wrong with a white shirt and dark jacket as it gives a nice contrast. Otherwise, a dark trouser suit with a colourfull top underneath and boots is smart but not too formal.

princessmel · 07/11/2008 11:19

How about a nice wrap dress and some knee high boots.

castille · 07/11/2008 11:24

at solidgold. Yes, sadly I need the money

Full-length photo, unfortunately. We're translators, so a bunch of office or work-from-homers.

My (few) dresses are all a bit smart for this, but I like the idea of a dress... I think. Wrap dresses don't suit me though (am too straight up and down).

Dress and boots then - will this brochure be around for a while, or are new photos fairly regular ? If regular, then a nice knit dress would be great

slim22 · 07/11/2008 11:30

make sure your hair looks great

simple top clean V line - avoid pattern like the plague

small piece of jewelry

castille · 07/11/2008 11:48

Last brochure was 3 years ago - does that count as regular?

Hair being cut today luckily

Shopping later...

3 years should be OK - its just that if theres a really long gap, then you have to be very careful to not be identifiable as a particular year iyswim

Anna8888 · 07/11/2008 17:45

Did you find anything???????

minko · 07/11/2008 18:48

As a designer of said brochures I'd recommend a black dress with opaques. No fashion statements, think very safe but wear what you feel comfortable in -if you're going to be shot against a white background it's very unforgiving...

castille · 07/11/2008 20:55

Yes I did! A lovely, very simple dark grey dress at Comptoir des Cotonniers. I love it and am very pleased. Thanks all for your advice, goodness knows what I'd have gone for otherwise

minko - I hope you approve

Well done

I walked past Comptoir des Cotonniers this evening on the way back from the park with DD and thought about your dress shopping .

slim22 · 08/11/2008 09:09
