I am actually. I am always joking with DH that for my 40th I want a tummy tuck and a boob lift (dont want them bigger....just back where they used to be ). I am a size 8/10 so don't necessarily need the lipo but the skin is so loose (I call it my austrian blind tummy and it kind of hangs down whenever I am bending over). I also still have some separation of the abs - despite regular exercise which make me wonder whether I would end up having to have a full tummy tuck anyway.

My concerns have always been:

do I want to put myself through "unnecessary" surgery and the associated risks?

what if something goes wrong and I end up looking worse than when I started?

Where the hell do I begin to find a good surgeon?

the scarring does worry me but I also wonder if it could possibly look any worse than I have now? I do wear a bikini on holiday - life's too short to care. But like you, I find that it even shows under certain clothes and I hate it when there is a loose flap of skin showing (by accident) over the top of my jeans . I am 37 now and tbh I feel like I have the belly of a woman twice my age or older.

DH is very supportive and has never made me feel self-conscious about it but would also not be averse to me having the op either.

How did you find your surgeon? What is the recovery time like? How noticeable is the scar?

Initially I did the usual thing of phoning up well known clinics on Harley Street to make an appointment with one of their surgeons. I found a clinic I liked the sound of and went along for a consultation.

I explained that I'd had heart failure when I was 19 and the surgeon asked if I really thought it was worth risking my health for a cosmetic procedure. A fair question but he followed it up by saying that if something went wrong and I had to be rushed to an NHS hospital then he didn't want them saying "Some bastard surgeon on Harley Street has made a mistake now we have to deal with it."

I thought it might be a good idea to see my GP and ask if it would be safe for me to have non life saving surgery with my heart condition. It was him that recommended Mr Tanner. His clinic is in a Bupa Hospital which meant that if anything did go wrong then there was an intensive care unit to hand.

I felt as ease with Mr Tanner immediately. He's very jolly and over the top and I didn't feel at all uncomfortable showing him my stomach. I saw the before and after photos of previous patients and was very impressed and couldn't wait to get booked in.

I recovered very quickly but obviously everyone is different. My scars have faded nicely. If you look at the third photo on my profile, which was taken six months after op, you can only just the scar down my middle.

It never crossed my mind that I might look worse after the operation as my stomach was so awful. There wasn't any excess fat, just a flap of skin which could be seen through my clothes. I hated it so much and just wanted it off. I wasn't at all bothered by scars as I have stretchmarks anyway.

the real john smith...You could be me..I think I look exactly as you do and feel exactly the same..dont you wish you could just vanish it away?. My stomach is washboard..almost concave when lying and standing and I have a fab six pack but when I bend over..bleurgh..Did you see the little tummy tuck on the before and after pics? Thats all I need really but I am very afraid I would look worse and worse still get mrsa and not be around for my dd just for the sake of vanity..will watch with interest..

Mum23asd ~ I think it was five or six months. I have a heart condition so before doing the operation my surgeon wanted me to see another Dr for a general health check up and an ECG. Once I got the all clear the surgery was booked.

I suppose in most cases the wait will depend on how busy the surgeon is. If you want to get it done as soon as possible ask if you can be contacted if anyone cancels.
