a friend is due to give birth to her first baby this month and i'd like to send her some really nice hand cream as a gift - since having DS i've found that my hands are getting rather cronelike and dried out from the constant washing. any recommendations?

cheers

Dr Hauschka. I switched my best mate to it a couple of years ago and she swears by it now !

Clarins is brilliant - it has a very distinctive smell which you may not like but it really is good. A pump bottle one is good too, easy to remember, Molton Brown, Cowshed or Jo Malone are all nice.

I have done serious hand cream research (am a nurse so wash hands A LOT) and I think Dr Hauschka is amazing, as is Clarins as is Crabtree and Evelyns Gardeners Hand Cream as is Body Shop Hemp. IMO!

Diana Drummond's stuff is fantastic and smells lovely too.

Unfortunately the company has recently changed hands (the couple who used to own it were lovely), but as far as I can tell the products are the same.

I allow myself one or two DD products a years as a real treat. It's lovely lovely stuff.

Also, it might sound expensive, but honestly it lasts for ages.

Clairns

Clarins is a great luxury buy but for me (very dry skin, cold fingers) the only one to cut the mustard is 'wuta kamille' by Herbacin. You can get it in John Lewises for about three quid - it comes in a lovely green tube and it is thick.

I use it all winter long. You can get it on ebay too.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour handcream or Crabtree and Evelyn Gardner's Handcream. Both v. good.
