Hi, I've just had my eyebrows reshaped and was asking beautician about my skin. She said that although I have good skin it is quite dehydrated and dull looking. Gave me some advice but it was all a bit rushed and I'm now a bit confused how I should look after it.
Basically I'm 40 but look nearer 30 and have very few lines just start of smile ones.
However I need some skincare tips.
How best to exfoliate cleanse etc and a recommendation of what to try would be great.
I have been using soap and water or babywipes.
Do moisturize but a bit slap dash. Using oil of olay one.
Thanks

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure the best thing for dehydrated skin is lots and lots of water!

I think it's easy to confuse dehydrated with dry and over exfoliate it. I use Dermalogica's daily microfoliant and love it.

I'm sure other experts will be along - and probably say that I'm talking rubbish

Sounds as though you should be giving advice not receiving it!

40, looking like 30... Have you been 10 year youngered?

I have had good results with my skin (I'm 41) using cleansers that you smooth on and then removed with a muslin rinsed in warm water. They tend not to dehydrate or irritate my skin and the muslin takes off any flaky bits. I started with Liz Earle and I still like it, although I didn't get along with any of her moisturisers. I did try Lush's Ultra Bland as someone said it was similar to Liz Early, but it was claggy and horrible. Recently I have been using this from Akamuti and find it better than Liz Earle during cold windy weather, but will probably go back to Liz Earle for the summer as it's lighter.

I use a little toner when I remember, the mildest I can find. I haven't found a moisturiser that I really love yet, but use a tiny bit of Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter at night and an eye oil from Akamuti.

You don't have to pay loads for Liz Earle muslins btw, if you have some left over from when your kids were little cut them into six square-ish pieces and they will be fine.

India Knight recommends crushing up aspirin, mixing them into a paste with water and using this as a face peel. Twas in this week's Sunday Times.

Thanks everyone. some good advice. I've always looked young, was pain when 18 and couldn't get in pubs etc but quite like it now. However bad habits catching up. Will be skincare shopping tomorrow.

I love Clarins hydra quench lotion here, they do a thicker cream and a serum too. Go and ask for samples of each and see what feels best for you.

Exfoliate about twice a week - Gommage Biologique from Guinot is a great exfoliator and doesn't use grains which is what I really like about it.

Guinot also do a mask called Masque Hydra Beaute (Moisture Supplying Radiance Mask) which is excellent for dehydrated skin and cold weather conditions. And it goes without saying that you need to rehydrate from the inside out too and drink lots of water!

shamefully i discover that my skin wasn't nearly so dehydrated once i started cleansing it every evening!!!!

it was just clogged up with old make up and old skin

eve lom works wonders for me

but maybe soap and water would have too!!

Yes, that last post truly sounds like a genuine, but brand-new and never posted before, member of MN who is anxious to give us the benefit of her wisdom.

Are we supposed to report this sort of unpaid-for advertising, or is it enough that one of us points it out so that naive trusting and innocent MNetters aren't taken in?
