Are you size 18/20 and dress nicely?

If so what do you wear? Where do you shop?

I am sick of wearing shapeless uninspiring clothes. My wardrobe is in dire straits, again. Inspire me please!

My best mate is a size 20-22 and always looks great. She shops at Monsoon a lot and Fat Face. Low cut tops and wide but fitted trousers seem to suit her best. And heels.

twinsetandpearls · 07/11/2008 18:58

I am a size 18, picture of my on profile. I do dress nicely and often get compliments on how I look.

I buy things from Monsoon, Littlewoods, Coast, Debenhams, Simply Be and autograph/ limited collection from and M and S.

I always accessorise well and wear fabulous shoes.

I ensure my hair is "sharp" to make up for my rounded body.

lulumama · 07/11/2008 18:59

not sure if i dress nicely, although i am told that i do.. but anyhoo, i have just bought some lvoely stuff from simply be

also, i accesorise, and always do good hair and make up. i wear bright colours and try not to look as though am apologising for being a bit lardy!

twinsetandpearls · 07/11/2008 19:00

I also make some of my own things, I can have what i want then

twinsetandpearls · 07/11/2008 19:01

Oh and ASOS.

twinsetandpearls · 07/11/2008 19:04

I never wear shapeless uninspiring clothes, lots of belts and tailoring.

Ronaldinhio · 07/11/2008 19:26

What about this website? The Argianto bit at the top is for 20+

italian va va voom

They are very well made and slightly more formal casual....loads of it is old and dull but some really classic pieces

Anna Scholtz for posho affairs
Ditto Marina Rinaldi

Trouble with Monsoon is their colour range. For me, anyway. I'm fair-skinned and blond (OK, highlights!), and suit bright clear colours like cream, butterscotch, salmon pink, aqua, lime. Everything in there seems to be peacock blue, puce or bluey purple.
Or have I missed something?

cremolafoam · 07/11/2008 20:04

i shop mostly in supermarkets for basics like t-shirts and longsleeved tops. i hate being told what to wear shape wize- hate hate hate v-neck tops and longer jackets I am 42 not 62 so I avoid evans like the plague. Also I am NOT 6'2 so trousers deigned for Evans look like they belong on a giraffe not me.
I know what suits me and it is this:
start with the spanks underwear The one that comes up to the bra and down to mid thigh. It will make you feel slimmer and more under control{lol}Get the right bra.I got myself measured and bought a minimiser style( I am an E cup).If it fts you properly you will fell more comfortable and clothes will hang better.
skirts: slim fitting , slightly above the knee( I have navy denim, black cord and grey flannel)
tops : empire line with a bit of volume from the norks down.Longsleeved is better so it hides arm blubber. OR smart fitted shirts with a collar over with skirt and a big wide elasticated belt giving myself a pretend waist.
Troosers:a wider leg jean/trouser looks better.Do not buy hipsters. They are for twigs.Don't buy them so tight you get camel toe.I actually find that Primark plain cotton jean/trouser in an 18 fit perfectly asthey have a higher waist. They come in Brown Navy and Black. Also buy online at La redoute. Most lines come in larger sizes-you do not need to shop at Taillisme.
Accessories are vital.longer beads will detract from chubby chins and neck.Spend more on these- perfect christmas pressies
you can wear funky tights.I wear coloured tights and smart black boots.Go to Duo boots for ones that will do up on the sausage legs.
Ebay had some great stuff.Type in your size and you will find all sorts of things.

cremolafoam · 07/11/2008 20:12

Quite like gudrun sjoden but generally can't afford it

AussieLou · 07/11/2008 20:17

I love the shopping over here. In Australia once you get to a size 16+ you are relegated to smocks and elasticed skirts. I shop a lot in M&S, Monsoon, Dorothy Perkins, Gap, and have bought a couple of things from Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys and Debenhams and Lands End and Ulla Popkin online. I think Evans is turning quite trashy. I would pay good money for decent jeans though, not that elasticed stretchy cotton crap masquerading as denim.

Ronaldinhio · 07/11/2008 20:20

in black

love this cremola and grey sheepskin coat

cyteen · 07/11/2008 20:23

A very stylish friend of mine has just started a blog that you all might be interested in: here

AussieLou · 07/11/2008 20:25

I am looking on the Levis site after acutally reading Ameliaansmes post properly. Does anyone actually understand the sizing????

Ronaldinhio · 07/11/2008 20:25

knits also divine and lovely colurs

swoon cremola

stephla · 07/11/2008 20:58

Hobbs goes to size 18 and is really well cut. I get the assistants to show me outfits, buy the unique pieces (eg green silk blouse) and then buy the plainer bits in M&S or the like (eg black bolero).

I do think that buying items in good fabrics is important if you are bigger. I often get the plain cashmere cardis and from Sainsburys. They look really good and feel gorgeous.

JackieNo · 07/11/2008 20:58

Have to say, I like Monsoon jeans - and you can generally go down a size in Monsoon, which is always a nice feeling, even if I'm kidding myself.

JackieNo · 07/11/2008 21:03

Loving that blog, cyteen . Thanks.

plantsitter · 07/11/2008 21:06

Oh no, Cremola! Why did you link to that site? I am drooling and trying to pay my overdraft off!

stephla · 07/11/2008 21:08

I like Monsoon jeans too as I do not have to take them up. And they always fit perfectly at 8am. Buy don't you find they somehow seem to grow bigger and bigger during the day?

cremolafoam · 07/11/2008 21:20

sorry ladies. it is rather wunderbar.
I lust for the basic stuff with the polkadots and the fantabulous boots.
in my dreams.
DON't Look at the interiors pages.you will not survive!**

plantsitter · 07/11/2008 21:28

...not...pressing...interiors...link..GAAHHH!!

I did it. Sob.

JackieNo · 07/11/2008 21:53

Maybe a bit, Stephla. But not too bad. And it's worth it to find something that will fit my massive hips and bum, without gaping round my small (though only small in comparison to my hips) waist .

InTheseShoes · 07/11/2008 21:57

I'm considered a good dresser at size 18 by my friends - I'd second monsoon as a great choice (love the sales!!), m & s, h& m, also Dorothy Perkins goes up to 22 and have nice things (and a petite range); Principles, Wallis, Debenhams. Definitely good shoes and jewellery also. Fitted rather than baggy.

twinsetandpearls · 07/11/2008 23:06

too much money but I would love this
