cosmetic surgery on calves/ankles

Anyone had it, want it? What might be the risks?
I have enormous ankles, calves and biggish knees. The rest of me looks fine although I have a big head. I don't have bare legs in the summer ever and would love to.

I've never had it but I have heard that it is the most painful consmetic surgery there is. Especially the knee's. Sorry I know thats probably not what you wanted to hear

Sounds awful- you would be left with scars- I know someone who had surgery on her arms although the rest of her body was very toned and slim- she was left with scars running the length of her arms.
Have you tried working with a personal trainer? it might be possible through exercises to "sculpt" your legs into a better shape, along with some weight loss.

I agree it shouldn't be done for purely cosmetic reasons.

You may find pilates useful, it's really good for lengthening leg muscles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am fit and not overweight. I just have abnormally large ankles and calves. I don't even think liposuction would help as it's the way the bones are constructed.

Puffling I feel your pain . I too am victim of the Cankle condition and I have spent my whole life wishing for surgery. However, I am far too scared of the whole deal to go ahead - even if money weren't an issue. I do, however, find that regular exercise - particularly running/speedwalking - helps to reduce the heaviness in my legs. Is it perhaps the type of exercise you are doing which is contributing to the heaviness? I've also found that once a day with a good moisturiser/detox massage oil really helps with tone and shape. As you say, the bones and tendons are wide set and we are stuck with it. Bearing this in mind, I have to say I don't give a monkeys about what others think so I always get my legs out in the summer (a good tan makes most legs look fine) or wear shorter skirts with opaques in the winter. Everyone has their insecurities - they are too bothered about theirs to notice yours .

Thanks for the tips TRMJS. I'm not normally bothered, but I saw Sharleen Spiteri peforming on tv the other night and thought wow, I wouldn't care how old I got if I could parade a pair of pins like that around!

also heard pilates very good for lengthening. My best mate is a personal trainer and she builds her calves up for skiing and then gets them all long and slim for spring and short dresses. She can change hers in a month.
