Am taking dd1, 13, to London tomorrow. We both have spending money! Is there anywhere you'd recommend, that we shouldn't miss? The David and Goliath shop is top of her list and Liberty is top of mine (just to drool; I haven't got THAT much spending money!).

cos and uniqlo are on regent st close to banana republic... so easy to do in one tube stop (oxford circus) There is also a Zara home across the road. And Hamleys... though I think your 2 are too big now
Unfortunately when I was there 2 weeks ago... I only looked at maternity stuff! I knew I should have gone into uniqlo.... gah!

Covent garden, and the road (Neal Street) that goes up from it are good for small, independent type stuff. There is an urban outfitters on there, and of course Neals Yard Dairy place that do the nice food and body stuff...
Or around Notting Hill Gate (graham and green, mint, pedlars etc, but these are home type places, not clothes, and dd might be bored.)

We've just come back from a few days in London. Science Museum is free, world class, fab fab fab!

EachPeachPearMum · 26/10/2008 19:39

Sorry- meant to say have a great day out, you lucky half-termer!!!!!

janeite · 26/10/2008 19:44

Thanks EachPeach. Zara home sounds exciting - dd loves Zara T-shirts! Did you buy anything nice? I like Neal Steet too.

Techno - yes, The Science Museum is fab - but better with littlies; dd is too busy being a teenager (ie: never relax; somebody might be LOOKING at you) to let herself go mad pressing all the buttons and would sneer at me if I did!

Technoprisoners · 26/10/2008 19:50

Ah yes, well you have a point there - my littlies did go mad with the buttons and bangs! Have a good day - you'll have a lot to pack in by the sound of it!

janeite · 26/10/2008 19:54

Thanks - yes, I need to remember comfortable shoes!

You'll never get all that done. Shopping, plus lunch plus museum, plus more shopping (13yo dd is going to want TOP SHOP + Urban outfitters for hours surely!)

Stick to two places plus lunch so Oxford Circus Top Shop, Urban Outfitters + Banana Republic, Liberty maybe. Then covent garden, you can walk from Tottenham court road end (get bus down - that end of Oxford Street is depressing) to the top and have lunch there, then do those shops (Urban Outfitters there too)

There is the world food cafe in Neals Yard, go up stairs to the left of the Neals Yard body stuff, it is above that. Nice veggie food, quite old school, v healthy, but quite cool. You can usually get a seat as most tourists don't know it's there.

Have a lovely day.

whistles are rather splendid at the mo

janeite · 26/10/2008 20:08

We will! We've done it before! We pick and choose which things we want to see in the museums.

Last time we did: Oxford Steet, Covent Garden, British Museum, lunch, National and Portrait Galleries, tea and cake in the crypt, back to Covent Garden, home (tea on train).

I like World Food Cafe too - and their cookbooks are brilliant - but dd insists on Hoummus!

I just bought a maternity top Janeite... so no use to you!
Am jealous though... I love days in London... when I'm not pg, of course

Miyazaki · 26/10/2008 20:16

Blimey. that's impressive.

Sounds like you know exactly what you're doing...

janeite · 26/10/2008 20:17

Lol - the problem is that we ALWAYS manage to get lost walking from Leicester Square to Trafalgar Square - still don't know how we manage to do this!

OP posts:
janeite · 26/10/2008 20:18

EachPeach - do you want be to bring you anything back?

OP posts:
janeite · 26/10/2008 20:19

EachPeachPearMum · 26/10/2008 20:30

very kind of you... but I got my treat when I was down there... Mamie Nova Chocolat desserts from Harrods... delish!

EachPeachPearMum · 26/10/2008 20:32

It's the mooching around and looking I love the most... but no fun when pg, as too hard on the back!

janeite · 26/10/2008 20:34

They sound lovely! My treat tomorrow is to be a trip to the Mac counter I think!

OP posts:
EachPeachPearMum · 26/10/2008 20:41

Don't we have MAC here?

janeite · 26/10/2008 20:43

We do yes but I've been resisting until I had an excuse!

OP posts:
SilentTerror · 26/10/2008 21:47
