Shiny red filmstar lippie - ideas?

I usually settle for safe lip colours but I've always wanted lovely shiny red lips. You know the kind you see in magazines - colour looks sheer, red but not too red?

Have bought I don't know how many lipsticks and glosses over the years, none right. Last two were a MAC lipstick which needs 20 mins with a brush to get right, and a No7 gloss called Lust. Too pinky.

Any ideas? I have brown hair and medium-fair skin.

if they are too pinky perhaps you need something a little more towards orange?

I used to have a lovely red one by prescriptives but I can't remember which one it was
look at burnt red or cherry

Enigma by Chanel is beautiful and incredibly wearable.

I have a lovely dior one 752 rouge - wear it on it's own or with a slick of pout plump over the top

i remember, when staying over with a school friend... her really cool big sister bought an expensive bright red lippy (clinique? clarins? chanel?) it was one of those really good ones that you didn't need to reapply... well, she looked well funny the next morning appearing with her bed head, dressing gown, pale face and bright red lippy!

Going to be controversial here. Take a look at the great film ladies of the past: Hepburn, Bacall or any woman on film even now, Do they wear shiny lips a la Kathy Kirby. No.
Matte it is, then.
