For a 43 yr old slimmish bean pole?

And if so how do you stop them clinging unnattractively to tights?

OP posts:
bundle · 22/10/2008 13:51

i prefer them with jeans/leggings
could wear an underskirt

SheherazadetheGoat · 22/10/2008 13:52

i think they are lovely, apparently hairspray on tights works wonders (haven't tried it myself.

ScareyBitchFeast · 22/10/2008 13:52

i saw a woman in a grey one recently, very clingy, showed her huge shoulders.
abosulte no no

mrsruffallo · 22/10/2008 13:52

Only good with flat stomach and pert bottom
If you fit this criteria, go for it

SheherazadetheGoat · 22/10/2008 13:53

is a flattish stomach allowed, i am never going to have a flat stomach again and don't see why i should be discrimated against.

OrmIrian · 22/10/2008 13:54

Flat stomach - yes.
Pert bottom - hmmm, not flabby but not small.

OP posts:
kiltycoldbum · 22/10/2008 13:56

if you have a gorg figure, flat tummy nice bum then yes if not, no you will not feel comfortable with it all being on display, safety pin pinned to the inside of the dress on the hem should work to stop static.

OrmIrian · 22/10/2008 13:57

Quite like this - go on tell me it's horrible

Need some new work clothes.

Ok - i like:

this

this

and i have this one

SpookyButNice · 22/10/2008 14:14

I tried on that second White Company one at the weekend - it was NOT flattering on me. Shame, as I like the idea of a sweater dress!

OrmIrian · 22/10/2008 14:14

Very nice. But Empire line doesn't suit me and I don't really want anything that low cut at work. Are you very slim tracey?

OP posts:
traceybath · 22/10/2008 14:16

Ok Orm - its horrid. Its acrylic - you'd sweat horribly and itch.

Spooky - shame about the white co one - they're all too long for me. The boden one is good because its lined so not clingy. I did buy it with 20% off though but still pricey.

kiltycoldbum · 22/10/2008 14:16

only if you have nice slim features polo neck on me would make me look even more double chinned, or if you have large boobs then no, if your more trinny woodhall figure then hell yes.

OrmIrian · 22/10/2008 14:17

Tt's true tracey. But I like the shape.

OP posts:
scaryfucker · 22/10/2008 15:21

orm, nooooo please, not 100% acrylic

I bought a great sweater dress from mango recently, but isn't on the website, so can't link for you. It is plain, short sleeved with a round neck and comes in black, brown, grey and dark purple. It is a cotton/lycra mix and keeps it shape really well (unlike acrylic-no baggy bums).

If you read Grazia this week, they are saying that sweater dresses and long cardis are the new "twinset". I must be fashion-forward then cos I wear mine with a long striped wool cardigan (so is good that sleeves on dress are short, I hate long sleeves over long sleeves IYSWIM) and cos the neckline is round (not polo) you can wear a funky ikkle scarf too!

Long cardi = bum hider, so bonus! I have a flat tummy but a not-so-pert bum, so this combo suits me.

mrsmaidamess · 22/10/2008 15:24

If the dress is empire line-ish then the static tights thing shouldn't be a problem. Mine never is.

scaryfucker · 22/10/2008 15:28

static tights problem-just wear a ikkle underskirt, it makes for a smoother line under sweater dresses anyway (and God knows, my cellulite needs it)

btw, the mango dress was 27 quid, cheaper than Boden!

RamblingRosa · 22/10/2008 15:31

Jumper dresses are brilliant! I love them. I'm currently wearing a gorgeous, fine-knit, grey one with a belt and a sort of drapey, cowl neck. It's wool and I got it in H&M for £19.99. Went back and got the same one in black at weekend cos I love it so much. V clingy, figure hugging so you've got to feel pretty confident.

I think the fact that it's wool means it doesn't cling. Well, it does cling because it's tight but it doesn't cling in a static-y way IYSWIM.

Anyway, you say you're a beanpole so I reckon you should go for it. Wear with thick black tights IMO.

kettlechip · 22/10/2008 15:59

love love love them. Have worn virtually nothing else this autumn. Wear over slim fit jeans and boots. Or with opaque tights and boots If you're braver than me. got the henley one from Boden, a few from Fat Face and White Stuff and 2 unbelievably gorgeous angora and cashmere Joseph ones from the Flannels sale for £45 each, still available now!!!

Particularly love that they don't ride up at the back and show builders bum when you bend over.

I do wear control pants underneath though, as i think they need a non-bumpy silhouette!!

OrmIrian · 22/10/2008 16:17

Of course there is always the little problem of never finding any dresses that are long enough in the body . I just got carried away - I should have learnt by now, I can't buy dresses online! Got a lovely red Betty Jackson dress for a wedding, looked great, until I put it on and the waist was just under my norks

I ordered this online,

jumper dress

it's lovely to wear over jeans, but the sleeves are strangely wide but as its so comfy I've kept it.

OrmIrian · 23/10/2008 09:20

That's nice samsonara!
