scarves - how??

Now that it's cold in the mornings, can anyone tell me how scarves are suposed to be tied this year? Last year I doubled it over and looped through.

This year I have noticed a lot of slim young things with Hermes-type scarves rolled up and tied in a knot - can't do this cos of large frontage, would look even bigger and start going round corners ahead of the rest of me.

Is the long knitted one a bit last year? Cosy tho.

You see, we need cod. Bah.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 14/10/2008 13:38

I expect I'll still do the doubling over and looping through. But if you want some more ideas for silky scarves. Then you too can look like an air hostess.

captainofthemummies · 14/10/2008 14:09

Yes but I don;t want to look like a trolleydolly - I want to be warm! Silky scarves are ok but mine tend to be the long knitted (but cashmere!) ones.

Maybe I should try one of those arabic ones, you know the red/white check ones. They seem to be everywhere (on 18YOs anyway)

COD!!!!!!!!

i have one of those arabic style ones and i'm definitely not 18 (27 in fact). norks fairly big, but looks ok looped twics around my neck sort of loosely. Got mine from H&M for £6. Bargain.

Double and loop is officially known as 'chimney sweep' style

I do it chimney style every year, sod the changing fads. It was good enough for my grandad and it's good enough for me!

Pannacotta · 14/10/2008 15:50

Double and loop, always IMO.
Looks stylish and keeps your neck warm.

Mercy · 14/10/2008 15:57

I think it depends how wide the scarf is.

For a skinnyish scarf I wrape it round my neck and then tie a loose knot a bit like this but tidier!

Or for a longer, wider scarf like this

Hehehe - there was an adult education 'course' in my old town called "Winning ways with scarves". Eight WEEKS!

If only I'd gone, I'd be of some help to you.

Mercy · 14/10/2008 20:22

I think you should attend the next available course adn report back

An 8 week course fgs

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 14/10/2008 20:25

Mercy, how do you do the bigger scarf one - I can't do that one at all,I'm obviously being dense...

Ronaldinhio · 14/10/2008 20:26

trouble with large frontages is that fro fro scarves are not the done thing fashion or not
slim and beautifuly knotted yes but massively fussy noooooo

come fly with me come fly come fly away

traceybath · 14/10/2008 20:28

If its a square - fold into in a triangle. Put pointed bit of triange at front and then put the ends behind you and then pull round to front on top of triangle and tie.

Does that make sense? That seems to be the 'cool' way of scarf tying this winter and works well with bit square scarfs.

Mercy · 14/10/2008 20:32

MAS, fold the scarf in half lengthways. so for example the 2 fringed/bottom ends match.

Place around your neck so you have one end bit and one looped bit. And then pull the 2 end bits through the loop of the other side adn pull gently

Sorry I', not good at explaining - practice my suggestion in front of a mirror!

beanieb · 14/10/2008 20:35

The double looping thing makes me go 'uuurrghhh' don't know why - it always has. Why not wear it as you feel comfortable?

traceybath · 14/10/2008 20:36

I do still do double looping but am aware its a little bit umm dated now.

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 14/10/2008 20:44

thanks mercy - am off to practice !

MorticiaAnnSpookington · 15/10/2008 09:24

hey mercy - now I can tie my scarf like everyone else ! I am impossibly dense and hadn't figured out how to do that casual knot and felt quite left out !! thank you

captainofthemummies · 15/10/2008 13:08

Well I am going to try one of the 'Hermes' type scarves, rolled up and tied round twice like traceybath said.
Got to be better than once round the neck and one end flipped over one shoulder.

Dr Who circa 1980 style.
