Come over here and tell me about personal shoppers

I'm going back to work soon so need to sort out my wardrobe. I'm thinking of using a personal shopper. Can anyone tell me about their experience and which shops have good/bad ones? In particular has anyone used one at Bluewater or Lakeside or eleswhere in central London?

I went to John Lewis not in the are ayou are though. It was ok - no pressure to buy or anything. Quite a few of the recommended pieces were not really me and I think you need to have the strength to say no!

I went in looking for a more fashionable wardrobe I am a SAHM - recommended dress was £200 and a matching cardi at £60 (could really see myself on the school run in that!) Did get a few nice pieces though.

I'd definitely do it, I went to Harvey Nichols and Liberty when I was looking for something to get married in and it was fab. You get someone to look at you with a fresh eye and do all the running around. If I were you I'd go to John Lewis, they have lots of choice and if you get home and find you're not sure about any of it you can always take it back. IME they are pretty realistic if you are clear about what you can/can't afford to spend

I quite fancied bluewater or lakeside to get the best of lots of shops but I'd better start looking at the department stores although I don't think my budget will stretch to HN or Liberty......

Oh no, mine doesn't at all ordinarily!

There's a JL at Bluewater isn't there? Or Debenhams might be worth trying?

blithedance · 13/10/2008 20:58

Yes to Debenhams. I went for the same reason, going back to work, a couple of months ago.

The PS picked me out three pairs of trousers and a few tops that flattered really well. I would never have picked out all those things by myself in half a morning. They were more stylish than I'd have gone for too!

She also had suggestions for skirts, macs, shoes. Not everything was to my taste, but all was within budget. It was really worth it IME.

I guess the service you get is dependent on how well you can tell the PS what you are looking for.

I went to House of Fraser and it was fab. Friends have said that I have looked consistently better since I went.

I'm going to book an appointment at Debenham's in a couple of weeks.

Will report back
