I need quite urgently to talk about tights

someone on a thread the other day said there was nothing more ageing than sheer tights

then they went on to suggest wearing opaques with a shiny party dress

they were younger than me so I am afeard now

I like opaques sometimes but always feel they are one step away from woolly tights

sheer black tights (well stockings, can't stand tights actually but that's another story) are always v slimming and flattering I find

I panic however that I have lost the style plot and people are sniggering at me behind my back and calling me an old lady

i would never wear sheer tights. apart from anything else i tend to put my thumb through them when putting on. i have worn opaque purple tights with short velvet dress and ankle boots. have good legs.

what are you wearing on your feet? why can't you wear 40denier in a nice deep colour, say charcoal or plum?

okay say for example I am going out in my grey wool fcuk dress

I can wear opaques okay for that with boots, no problem

however if I am going out for the evening in my chiffony black dress with gold sparkly bits on, with black heeled shoes

opaques seem just wrong. just very wrong indeed. Like putting a pair of jeans on under it

ah textural issues. i am a stranger to chiffon so cannot pronounce. i do know what you mean about black sheer being ageing but probably not in that case, more for everyday wear.

but I like sheer sometimes for officey

Sheer black with a seam up the back (cuban heel) are pretty nice.

But Opaque matt textured leg with shiny fabrics is a contrast, which is in fashion at the moment, it plays up the femininity of the evening dress because of the contrast with the opaque matt tight. You could use a satin opaque in a 40 denier to give you a more'eveningy' effect? Wolfrd used to do a delicious one, and IIRC they used to do a stocking too. Try Mytights.com or stockingshq (avoid the discussion boards on stockings site tho!)

I was going to start a tights thread but have decided to hijack this one.

I often wear opaque tights and would really like some with different coloured stripes. Anyone know where I can get some?

I was doing some research on internet clothing and accessory retailers, and stumbled upon the forums by accident - it was an eyeopener I can tell you!

I tend to do bare legs in the evening,tbh,to avoid the sheer tights thing.
I do think they are aging,as everyone wears opaques now.
Would only do bare with fake tanned legs though,and never in daytime in winter!
