I'm in the middle of redecorating the living room - turquoise/teal and brown...I've been looking for nice candles/vases/decorative type things but cant seem to find any - next had a load of stuff in... but apparently that was last seasons colours

Does anyone have any pearls of wisdom.. either online or shops?

TIA

No no no you really don't need lots of fussy trinkets and decorative stuff in your living room - just a couple of large statement pieces like a lovely mirror or lamp.

If your colour scheme is turquoise/teal and brown, how about a large gilded mirror?

Hmmm Its tricky - one feature wall - `circular fireplace and wall lights so no big piece there, other wall floor to celing windows, other wall french doors, other wall door into hall, so no real space. Have a tall unit a bit like this only its half the width, so only really good for putting a candle/vase/bowl in each "space" (there is 4)

Apart from that we have no furniture in the room apart from sofas and tv

Why have the unit? Why don't you get rid of that and have one single decorative thing in its place?

I think having lots of bits and pieces in the same colours can look a bit staged.

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/10/2008 17:40

don't forget pictures - am always surprised how few people put paintings/prints etc up on their walls

TKMaxx is good for that sort of thing. Some really unusual bits. Definitely agree - don't go too staged though. I hate the 'show home' look.

How about glass or mirrored accessories? Would go with any color scheme. Laura Ashley have some lovely stuff in at the moment and a 25% off sale.

i know what you mean about the 'staged' look, just after a couple of bits to tie in the teal cushions. Getting rid of the unit is not really practical in that it sits in the corner, doesnt a huge amount of space, and is good for keeping things out of reach of 18 month old ds. . Huge lamp would be lovely... Until he knocked it over.
