fishie · 06/10/2008 14:48

i like the ted baker.

m&s

i have a really nice grey patent one from limited collection, but not on website any moer. it also comes in a rather unpleasant dead flesh colour.

nailpolish · 06/10/2008 14:50

omg the ted baker my mum would LOVE
shed wear it with her fleece and elasticated trousers

the orla is nice but everyone has one
so id go for the whitestuff one out of the 3

and as for the m&s words defeat me

Earlybird · 06/10/2008 14:50

Like the Ted Baker one best.

Orla is nice, but perhaps colours make it not quite as versatile? White Stuff bag doesn't look like it would hold very much without 'bulging' in an awkward way.

Lio · 06/10/2008 14:51

Good lord, at first glance I thought this was a spoof thread about trendy body bags, in response to the M&S and Boden threads.

BirdyArms · 06/10/2008 14:57

I need one of these too - I always leave my bag on the back of the pushchair, wander off and then run back in a panic to check it's still there.

The only ones I really like are the Orlas, but they are expensive for something that every third person seems to have. Please someone find some more alternatives!

Lovingthepink · 06/10/2008 15:04

I've just bought a radley across the body bag for the same reason here

I bought it as I thought it would be practical - can't believe I didn't buy it years again. It is so useful. (not pretty, but useful )

white stuff one v nice - was looking at that myself !

nailpolish · 06/10/2008 15:14

i just cannot like these radley bags
dunno why

TheBlonde · 06/10/2008 15:25

I don't carry much in the bag, just purse, keys, phone etc.

OP posts:
MrsBates · 06/10/2008 15:27

I misread and thought you were looking for body bags. I'll go now.

JuneBugJen · 06/10/2008 15:28

Me too mrsbates! I could just imagine Horatio on CSI:Miami zipping up a corpse in a pink sequin body bag designed by FrostFrench!

Earlybird · 06/10/2008 15:28

I looked at those Radley bags this summer, but decided against them (there are two sizes). They are chic and streamlined when empty, but don't actually hold very much without bulging out in an unattractive lumpy way. (I don't need any more awkward bulges on my hips, as I have enough of my own, thankyouverymuch! )

I carry a reasonable amount of stuff in my handbag, so do better with a messenger bag across the body style (similar to Ted Baker in OP).

lizandlulu · 06/10/2008 15:30

i love over body bags.

there are some really usefull kipling bags and radley bags. kipling ones go in the wash too.

i just bought a mulberry one too, really simple and classic, too nice to use

MrsBates · 06/10/2008 15:31

In Miami I bet that's not far from the truth!

JuneBugJen · 06/10/2008 15:31

LOL

NomDePlume · 06/10/2008 15:34

I love the Orla Kiely one but it's not an across body is it ? Looks more like a shoulder bag.

I have a plain black leather Radley accross body bag (same as the one in lovingthepink's link). I don't wear it with the dog hanging out. It's big enough to carry all my guff and subtle enough to go with almost anything. I quite like the tan leather one too.

TheBlonde · 06/10/2008 15:37

the orla has an adjustable strap so can go across

OP posts:
Lovingthepink · 06/10/2008 15:57

I know what you mean about it bulging. But it doesn't seem to. I have the larger size and have purse, phone, keys, make up bag, notebook, pen, various items such as lip balm, calpol sachets and neurofen. Receipts, fold up shopping bag, colouring book and crayons (small size) tissues and wallet thing with cards in. Lol also dental floss, photograph of kids and bachs rescue remedy!!

I think you would agree it holds a lot and there is no bulging on my hip!!!!!!!!

annmar · 06/10/2008 16:05

I've got one of these.

I've got the small one, but I can easily get enough stuff for me and two DDs in it.

There are plenty of pockets and it comes in loads of colours.

Lovingthepink · 06/10/2008 16:06

I love the orla bag but without a zip at the top I would find that when I chucked it in the car, as I often do, everything would fall out.

Libra1975 · 06/10/2008 16:18

I have this:
www.fatface.com/bin/venda?ex=co_wizr-productgrid&bsref=fatface&step=shopcartmulti&invt=20787&orderco l=alphanu&layout=productdetail

it holds one nappy, one travel changing nap, packet of baby wipes,2 sets of keys, mobile, purse, diary, dummy and a babygro so perfect for quick shopping trips or walks.

This is quite nice as well
www.fatface.com/bin/venda?ex=co_wizr-productgrid&bsref=fatface&step=shopcartmulti&invt=20897&orderco l=alphanu&layout=productdetail

what's your budget?

TheBlonde · 06/10/2008 16:24

annmar - I'm not sure about backpacks, I'd worry about pickpockets tbh

Libra - no budget as such, will happy pay for the perfect bag but can't face spending £100 quid and then going off it iyswim

OP posts:
Jux · 06/10/2008 16:25

Are they fashionable?

I got something about a year ago because it was practical. It came from a market stall, made from rice sacks and has "broken less rice" just legible on it. Does this mean I'm actually a la mode? I can't believe it. Hasn't happened to me for years!

minko · 06/10/2008 17:01

I quite like this

But I quite liked the M+S one too and nailpolish thought it was hideous...
