natural hair colour - does anyone actually do it?

I'm just nosy - I think every woman I know dyes or at least high/lowlights their hair!

Does anyone just have what nature doled out?

I think I would if I still had the lovely reddy gold hair I had at 22. Now it's dark murky blonde.

ah the irony. I spend years and years colouring my lovely thick dark brown hair red, blonde, highlights etc, and now I'm in my 40s and greying I dye it to look as much as possible like the natural dark brown I had in the first place.

Blackduck · 05/10/2008 18:14

Me....I have gone grey gracefully (I like to think ) Couldn't be arsed colouring it....

NoblesseOblige · 05/10/2008 18:17

I have had pink, purple, orange and blue hair over the years. Havn't dyed it for several years now as maybe pink n spiky at 40 is a bit

cocoleBOO · 05/10/2008 18:19

Why are you starting to colour Cod?

I even dyed my dark brown when my hair was dark brown because it gave it a lovely shine.
Now I do it because I'm going grey.

Frightattendent · 05/10/2008 18:20

I don't dye mine either. I tried with black shoe dye when I was 19 and it all came off.

Looked shit though, I am too pale.

It's only mousey/dark blonde/ light brown. With a few white hairs coming along

It's strange because when I used to use clairol occasionally in my twenties, it always gave me sort of a ridge where the roots had grown out...and now I still get that ridge thing about 4 inches down, maybe it is the sun or something? Weirdy...

Yes everyone at school gates, in fact everywhere, seems to have unnatural colour rather than natural one. I don't understand it, I'm sure it used to be unusual to have dyed hair when mum was my age?

FairyMum · 05/10/2008 18:22

I don't dye mine. It's so blonde I don't think it would show for ages if I got greys.

LetThemEatCake · 05/10/2008 18:25

black shoe dye!!! No way!

noonki · 05/10/2008 18:26

i don't dye mine - though used to before kids

traceybath · 05/10/2008 18:28

am naturally dark blonde (ok mouse) and have had hi-lights for years.

in fact last year was admiring how blonde i was at the front and realised it was grey so now have to go to hairdressers more regularly.

i do think though with fair hear the grey blends in more and isn't as obvious as on dark hair.

CantSleepWontSleep · 05/10/2008 18:29

All natural here.

Frightattendent · 05/10/2008 18:31

Yes LTEC I was a bit, um, stupid

was trying to look like Robert Smiff.

glad to see there are those among us who do not dye, I have always felt a bit of a freak at school!

Othersideofthechannel · 05/10/2008 18:32

I have black hair and have never died it.

I have had a few grey hairs since I was 19 but not enough for me to worry about. Recently I grew my fringe out and one reason was because most of the grey hairs are concentrated there and as they are wirier they stuck up. I am 36. My mum starting dying her hair regularly when she was 40 and it seemed such a bind. I would rather grow grey gradually but will see how it looks.

Othersideofthechannel · 05/10/2008 18:33

I have never dyed it

smurfgirl · 05/10/2008 18:39

Yes. I have dark brown hair that is dark brown.

I do have it dyed the same colour it is though = natural glossing

SaintRiven · 05/10/2008 18:45

I do wonder about those who always dye their hair. MIL is in her 60's and has brown glossy hair. Dyed. One day she might have to stop and it'll be a sudden shock!

EachPeachPearMum · 05/10/2008 20:34

I don't dye my hair ever- I started going grey before my mum even did- I was only 19. You couldn't really tell as I was still blonde then. I have started going darker now, though sort of mid-brown- you can see the grey, but hey.
I do hate it when older ladies still have jet black hair... it just looks so wrong- your skin tone changes as you get older, and dark hair looks way more wrong than grey.

I could be more groomed, but I wouldn't colour it. I think grey looks distinguished- when you have a decent cut ( which I don't )

Aefondkiss · 05/10/2008 20:37

I have had various hair colours, but now I am quite happy with my dark brown, even though there are a few white hairs, my mum is in her 60s and still has lots of brown hair, with a fair few white ones too.

foxinsocks · 05/10/2008 20:39

I don't colour my hair either. Is sort of grey blonde I think. Has a tendency to have white blonde streaks in summer anyway from the sun and will probably go quite dark now in the winter (like champagne/mousy).

have been tempted to buy one of those wash in wash out blonde colours but I also have v sensitive skin and tend to react to that sort of stuff so have just never bothered!

foxinsocks · 05/10/2008 20:41

yeah, I have a lot of white hairs, especially where it grows on my scalp at the front and a bit on the sides (but not at the back). Just seems to be there at the moment.

Liffey · 05/10/2008 20:44

Me. I have what nature gave me. IT's very dark brown though. If it were mousey I'm sure I'd have given blonde a whirl.

I've tried purple hues and copper hues, but they look stripey as I have a mixture of different coloured hairs.

Megglevache · 05/10/2008 21:05

All of a sudden I have lots of grey and as my natural hair colour is almost black I have to dye it every 6/8 weeks or so. It's such a pain.

I have only dyed my hair once, a very dark black, when I was 17!! I have proper red/ginger hair and it looked bad!! (not meaning good!!) Wouldn't do it again.

What colour do we gingers go when we get old(er)!???
