Sorry, what-to-wear-to-wedding thread again, but something for deep mid-winter ...

It's a 4pm black-tie wedding on 20 December in deepest rural England. Everyone will be in faux or real fur shrugs I'm guessing - can we think of any alternatives to avoid freezing my norks off? or shall I just wear a glass-eyed fox round my LBD?

Fantastic.

I have the same problem, but as I'm pregnant I guess the hormones will keep me warm.

Ewe · 28/09/2008 21:58

What about a cloak?

Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 21:59

lol Ewe. Not quite ready for that

llareggub, yes, you'll be toasty with your built-in hot-water bottle. hurrumph, will I really look out my granny's moth-eaten fox??

I'm going to a wedding on 20th December as well (although not black tie).

themildmannneredjanitor · 28/09/2008 22:02

i love this coat which i think would be gorgeous!

themildmannneredjanitor · 28/09/2008 22:03

this is lovely too but expensive

Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 22:05

No I will look like a Harry Potter wannabe I think, though it is a gorgeous colour and definately warm.

Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 22:07

That second job is much much more my thing - why don't they do it in a proper colour? Can't really wear black to wedding I always think.

OP posts:
themildmannneredjanitor · 28/09/2008 22:07

harry potter?

what kind of thing would you LIKE to wear? give me some clues then before i google endlessly pulling up stuff you don't like.

NotCod · 28/09/2008 22:08

thin vest under a long sleeved dress and matchign coat.

ahundredtimes · 28/09/2008 22:09

Are you sure you're going to be that cold?

How much of this wedding is taking place outside?

Ewe · 28/09/2008 22:09

On a serious note, a coat like this would be perfect, tailored, pretty, formal, with a nice scarf you'd be warm and stylish.

Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 22:10

I want that but in dark red.

OP posts:
themildmannneredjanitor · 28/09/2008 22:10

this is nice too

NotCod · 28/09/2008 22:10

its cheap too!

NotCod · 28/09/2008 22:11

just wear your dressing gown

Ewe · 28/09/2008 22:11

Oh you don't want to do black - was very slooow posting!

Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 22:12

sorry, I meant the coat that MMJ found. The dark purple isn't quite right.

tbh I don't know how much is going to be outside but I'm imagining big drafty stone church followed by big drafty marquee and/or house

Perhaps it will be boiling and everyone will be in strapless silk. God.

OP posts:
Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 22:17

That East one is also good - but 'bark'? why can't they do them in more luscious colours?

Maybe it'll be my thermal vest under silk dress.

Ewe, that dress is probably not evening-y enough.

Sorry, am ungrateful, but thank you for efforts so far. MMJ may have found the good'un.

OP posts:
themildmannneredjanitor · 28/09/2008 22:20

how about a nice pashmina?

Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 22:22

I know they're supposed to be 'back' but my heart sinks ...

OP posts:
themildmannneredjanitor · 28/09/2008 22:22

what colour is your dress?

Winebeforepearls · 28/09/2008 22:25

Well the most likely one is dark silvery grey if that makes sense. So I need a brighter colour over the top.

You've being very kind and patient.
