...smart long cardies for work to wear over trousers and shirt.

But I cannot be doing with chunky knits. And I am kidding myself that I am still a pear shape but in reality (especially from the side!) I look pregnant like an apple. So it probably needs to go 'in' somewhere under the boobs and button there not at neck etc..

And then there's the V neck jumper that it both fitted and fine knit, long enough to cover the stomach, 'ruche' up a bit if necessary but it not too shapeless 'boyfriend' (god I hate that phrase)

And then there's the warm multipurpose, chuck it over everything jumper or tunic.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Gap have some nice, long, fine-rib cardigans - £30 or non-rib for around £40. All Saints always have interesting looking long cardigans, although a bit pricey.

For chuck it over everything and keep warm but look okay, M&S have v nice cashmere jumpers, scoop necked, £50-ish.

Thanks jackieno, first link didn't work, liking the damson and grey ones, the mohair just doesn't work with me (fat): I have open weave ones like that already from Monsoon and I think they only work if you are unbulgy!

I bought a fab v neck jumper in zara today. I bought charcoal grey but they also had navy, beige and black.

Perfect v neck - ideal with shirt under and fitted but not skin tight and also fairly long. Nice button detail on sleeves which are long.

Fine knit too and all for £19 - can't find a link though.

The Gap one is skinny and smooth and can be worn loose, belted or as a wrap.

you need cashmere, if budget permits A/W essential, and investment to boot

I know Miss Selfridge is a bit "teenage" but they have some nice, unfussy, long V-buttoning cardis in great Autumn colours such as damson red and a lovely darkish blue

they have colour matched em with some great folky tops for underneath

they look fab with dark skinny keks and boots

I have just bought a long, belted v neck cashmere jumper for 40 quid from Tesco!

It says it is machine washable but I'm a bit about this. Yeah if you want a matted shrunken jumper next time?

I bought long skinny rib cardigan in black from Principles a few weeks ago which is quite nice.
Much better than black boiled wool long Boden one that I thought was great until someone took pic at work.

Wilf, a cardi fitted like a jacket is a good option. LA had some nice ones.

I think a v neck jumper can look a bit dodgy if one has a prominent midriff.
