Shoes. Heels, to be precise.

I'm updating my work wardrobe (see black dress post...). I've never worn heels at work as I've usually had a long walk + tube, but now I cycle in I reckon it's time to buy some heels and leave them at work. But they're just so very uncomfortable. Wedges are fine in the summer, but proper grown up heels are just too uncomfortable. I'd really like a pair of smart heels - any tips? Does the shape of the heel make a difference? Would I be better with something less spiky? And where is good for comfortable heels...?

Well I wear quite high heels but never of the spiky variety, usually of the more solid block variety and I don't find them uncomfortable at at all, spikes I would.

You should be warned though that I am NOT trendy and (if that sort of thing bothers you) spike heels are very fashionable at the moment.
