Okay this is serious. I have to wear something to get married in.

I was planning on going down in jeans but my granny has said she'd like to send me some money to buy something nice to wear.

Q1. Is this dress too long to be a dress over trousers?

Q2. These trousers are nice aren't they? Maybe a sort of tunic / dress / top with them?

Q3. Shoes?

Like the dress but does it have to go over trousers. I like the tulip dress on umberella's link. Don't like the utam dress unless you are a stick. Are you a stick brocolli?

BroccoliSpears · 10/09/2008 12:41

I am not a stick of broccoli . Or a stick.

Right. Thank you all for the links.

I love Beetroot's ra ra dress very much, but unfortunately need bigger straps to go over my feeding bra straps.

The print piped dress is good, but the wrong colour for me.

The lace swing dress is gorgeous, but not feeding bra compatible (and a bit of a horrifying thought when you factor in my 34F's lactating all over the place .

Don't like the flying hearts.

Funnily enough I've been looking at that Fat Face dress Sandy. Can't decide. I do like it, but maybe with wedges not trousers.

My trouble is I know what I like, but I don't think what I like is what suits me and I'm not reaLLY SURE what suits me.

Am 5'4, size 14. Post baby tummy. Hate my legs. Currently bfing. (Ugh, is it any wonder I don't enjoy clothes shopping?). V blonde, fair colouring, freckles. Maybe I'll try and find a pic to put up.

Beetroot · 10/09/2008 12:44

you need spanx for tummy

buynew bra for the day and don't wear your feeding one - if you have to feed you can hoik it up.

34F is not big

BroccoliSpears · 10/09/2008 12:49

Yes yes. Spanx and good shape bra. Have those. I was a 34B pre babies so it seems enormous to me and I don't yet feel I am the boss of them.

I like this mandarin dress but not sure what I'd wear with it.

I like this - I always wanted to get married in a red dress.

Can't find a photo of me standing up.

OP posts:
Beetroot · 10/09/2008 13:11

this red dress and the shoes

OrmIrian · 10/09/2008 13:13

Ooh, very nice.

BroccoliSpears · 10/09/2008 13:23

It is nice. I think I'd feel a bit of a nana going in on the bus in that getup though.

Am thinking now will thank Granny kindly for her offer, but will stick to original plan of wearing whatever happens to be clean on the day.

Thank you for your help though, and sorry to change my mind.

lol at thread title - makes it sound as if you'd rather get married in the buff.

AIBU to wear something when i get married?

Ewe · 10/09/2008 13:30

This is really flattering on.

You really should wear a pretty dress! I wore this dress on Sunday to my DD's christening. Again, it's a good cut for post baby body!

If you don't want the proper wedding outfit, or even a dress, what about using the money to just buy a nicer, newer, cleaner, fresher version of whatever you'd wear anyway? So if you're planning to wear jeans and a top and nice shoes, use the money to buy a new top, or pair of jeans or shoes so that a) you feel that little bit more special and b) your gran feels that you've really used her gift?

traceybath · 10/09/2008 13:30

Is your normal style dress over jeans? Although i know thats tricksy when bf - i'm still bf and it does limit my wardrobe!

If granny wants to give you some money why not just go for something casual that you'll wear normally but perhaps a slightly nicer version. You don't need to get massively dressed up but you could buy some nice shoes/boots/coat/jacket/top just to make you feel a little more special.

Good luck with the shopping and congratulations on your imminent wedding.

BroccoliSpears · 10/09/2008 13:58

Normal style: I own one pair of trousers and 2 ankle length skirts, about 4 tops, 2 tunics and 2 cardis. Everything goes with everything else. I wear either
Skirt + vest + cardi
Trousers + vest + cardi
Trousers + tunic

I don't actually own any jeans, but simplified in OP to give the idea of the issue without going off on a tangent.

The trouble is that even shopping for what I normally wear is stressful. I've been out twice shopping for clothes for myself as everything I own is either a bit small or so faded and old and patched that it's getting embarrassing, and the few things I wear are on such heavy rotation that they'll wear out and I really will be nekkid.

BroccoliSpears · 10/09/2008 14:01

Oh, and for shoes I have green rubber flip flops, brown slippers or running shoes . I think I do actually need to get some shoes whatever else I decide.

BlingLovin · 10/09/2008 15:42

Okay, I really really think you need to take advantage of your gran's generous offer. Don't buy anything you wouldn't wear anyway, but do buy something new so that it fits nicely and feels good.

You don't like your legs if I recall correctly? And are concerned about post baby tummy? What about loose new trousers - you can buy those anywhere frankly - and a nice top with seams under the bust to flow gently over the tummy - again, easy to buy pretty much in any high store shop.

But as you like White stuff what about these three choices:

You said you like red so maybe this:

or similar version in blue:
www.whitestuff.com/selected_sku/505120235142/LOVE-AFFAIR-KAFTAN-P23500/

Or this one:

Last one maybe worn over lighter trousers? But could be anything.

or

Red slightly smarter top. Cross over to hide bits you're less excited about! . Can be work with any trousers or skirt in a neutral colour.

Sorry to go back to lickleholme's posting, but she must be mortified (if she knows) ... but it did make me laugh ('specially as I've just had to be treated for it in pregnancy - can be sparked off by Thrush) - that's to make her feel better if she sees this.

I second Uttam -love their stuff. You're getting some other lovely suggestions though. Hope you have agreat day!

theirmum · 10/09/2008 16:07

OMG I am so embarrased , I am sorry for the link, I was trying to post on this thread. I can't believe I did that.
Here is the link I ment to post to you here

ninja · 10/09/2008 18:33

Don't worry - it made me laugh a lot (sorry if that didn't make you feel better)

mabanana · 10/09/2008 18:42

I think you should pop into somewhere like Debenhams and see a personal shopper as you sound really daunted by the idea of buying anything. And whatever you wear, book a cab!!

BroccoliSpears · 11/09/2008 21:58

Links have given me some ideas. Am going to pop in to town on Saturday. Will let you know ...
