Alternatives to Boden and Joules.....?

Am 36+5 and really looking forward to wearing different clothes! I know I won't get my shape and size back straight away, but I can dream.... at least the Autumn Winter collections may be within my reach by Christmas sales.....

Anyway, I used to get a lot osf stuff from Boden, but liek a lot of people have said, their quality and sizing is a biot suspect. I sometimes quite like Joules, but have also found their quality a bit flimsy and their stuff can be a bit "fun" for me.

So, you'll have guessed that I like "posh casual wear". Boden is really the toppermost end of my budget. Don't really like Hobbs - a bit too smart, and a bit too pricey, although have bought the odd formal thing from them in sales.

Are there any good quality alternatives to Boden and Joules? I remember Racing Green with fondness....

ebay is always worth a look. I've bought quite a few jigsaw things on ebay at a fraction of the price. There are always tons of Monsoon things listed - I think there must be a few wholesalers out there. If you save money that way, you can splash out on a few extra, extra, posh things from the shops.

Primark rocks! The quality may vary from item to item but if you look hard, you really can get some great bargains. I have some Primark T shirts and jeans that are every bit as good as their expensive rivals and have lasted for years. Go to a big store to browse.

Toast? Good God - saw a brochure of theirs teh other day. V odd clothes.

God, I remember Racing Green - I got my graduation dress from there!

M&S Limited Collection seems qutie good and not too expensive

men'al?

I still have a Racing Green dress that's been going for ages - they're still around, but only do menswear now.

iCod and Wessexgirl
Shops, yes, great idea, but nearest decent ones an hour away. Now I have finished work, really don't want to have to go into town (bumpkin me). I have never been much of a shopper, and with dc due soon, am very much a mail order girl!

Have looked at Seasalt - quite like that. Have never really "got" Toast. I did splash out on a skirt of theirs once, and it went straight back. Nothing like in the catalogue.

White Stuff, yes, had forgotten about them.

Do agree that Peacocks and Primark may be the way ahead for credit crunch maternity pay. Could be worth a trip into town, although they are both closer than the city centre and less aggro to get too.

Just need to see what size I am when winter hits!

also natural collection

cupsoftea · 25/08/2008 10:43

Faced with the same prob - no time to go round the shops.
Have you tried Lands end - v. good for trousers and tops.

I hate Toast- they look all droopy, and countrified in a very mumsy way- just can't see the appeal, except they seem to survive on selling an upper-middle class/upper class , rural lifestyle.

Pannacotta · 25/08/2008 18:49

Great Plains, Phase Eight, Monsoon, Seasalt, Fat Face, White Stuff, all are good and nicer than Boden IMO.

barking · 25/08/2008 19:01

Also saltwater
sister company of seasalt - more toastlike

weepootle · 25/08/2008 19:14

Cottonfield. Though it's quite hard to come by these days, is usually sold through small boutiques.

How do these old threads pop up?

NorthernLurker · 22/11/2013 21:27
