Upwind · 18/08/2008 20:37

tacky

Dozymare · 18/08/2008 20:37

as an 18 month year old, I just wore bikini bottoms and a HUGE swimming nappy (30 odd years ago!) in fact, most of my holidays as a child were spent in just bikini bottoms as were most of my friends.....or naked in the garden!

Baaaad

beanieb · 18/08/2008 20:37

Horrid. Go naked.

Lucycat · 18/08/2008 20:38

I can see that a vest style top and bottoms make it easier to change nappies - but skimpy ones nope.

bamboostalks · 18/08/2008 20:38

So bottoms ok and no top?

I think they look weird on young children, so I'd just use the bikini bottoms.

bamboostalks · 18/08/2008 20:39

They are not string ones lol. They are quite square iykwim, a sort of cropped tankini.

At 18 months surely it is a choice between swim nappy or naked?

If you want to cover her top half use a t-shirt for protection from the sun or even one of those sun suits..

Dozymare · 18/08/2008 20:43

top sounds ok to me if it is sort of square tankini...I was imagining triangle top which is just yuck! Still go for bottoms only though!!

(But then I don't have a daughter, jsut based on what I wore)

on the hanger they look so sweet..tony and mini me...BUT in reality imo, they look awful. IMO bikinis are for teenagers (at a push) upwards iykiwm.

shhhh · 18/08/2008 22:19

meant "tiny" not tony...

cheesesarnie · 18/08/2008 22:20

noo.tacky.

ThatBigGermanPrison · 18/08/2008 22:23

They are hilarious. Bikinis on babies look like blue shimmery eye shadow on 55 year old male accountants - so incongruous it's laughable.

Can you imagine the rolls of pudge squirting out of the bikini? Awwwww!

MsHighwater · 18/08/2008 22:41

eurgghh!

madrose · 18/08/2008 22:48

We've just got back off our hols, my dd is 3 and was desparate for a bikini (she's obsessed with bras), she saw lots of little girls wearing them and wanted one so badly "i need one".

As she is very fair I make her wear a sunsuit when swimming/beaching abroad, but I did get her a bikini to wear inside, it was a cropped taninki top and the bottoms had a little skirt attached, but she looked so funny with her little tummy sticking out. She just loved having her own bra

My neices 4 upwards have been wearing them and they looked really cute.

Mrs Dogmatic says

Bikinis for children should never have skimpy, triangle tops. That is The Rule.
