what's the most you have ever spent on a bra and are designer bras worth it?

that's it really- look longingly at £50-£60 bits of lace...but who buys them and are they worth it- apart from the effect on men in your life.

bran -see the other thread about bra sizes.

Thanks GND, I've just had a look. Confirms my theory about adding inches being rubbish.

Mercy · 15/08/2008 16:37

For once I am grateful for my 32AA's.

M&S t-shirt bras for a tenner do for me.

Piffle, good luck with the op!

MrsDisapproving · 16/08/2008 07:38

so do people really hand wash their bras?

and how is that better? [lazy slut emoticon]

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/08/2008 07:57

About £80 for a Prima Donna one. Huge norks (H cup even pre children) so cheap bras just aren't a viable option.

Slouchy · 16/08/2008 08:05

£80-odd from Rigby and Peller. HUge norks. V comfortable but gives me a scary pointed shape (think Madonna in JPG ice cream cones - but 3x size) so I wear much cheaper panache ones most of the time.

RichmondMummy · 16/08/2008 20:18

It seems one of the main things you pay for with expensive bras is consistent sizing. You can get some great bargain bras at M&S but their sizing is completely random! Anyone else find that? Their cheap bras last well (once you've found one that fits!).

RichmondMummy · 16/08/2008 20:19

and to answer MrsDisapproving, no way do I have time to hand-wash bras.

girlnextdoor · 16/08/2008 20:37

Richmond mummy- yes!

I have been wearing M&S 34A for ages- now gone into a 34B but tried a 34B new style last week and it was HUGE!!

Can I ask, those of you who buy from Bravissimo can you buy the same size from other shops once you've been measured, or do you find only their 34G/36F or whatever fits you?

expatinscotland · 16/08/2008 20:52

about a fiver.

i simply don't have the money to buy expensive bras.

i'm a D cup.

never been fitted and never will because i can't afford anything over than a tenner max on a bra.

ladymariner · 16/08/2008 21:09

I buy from Bravissimo and tbh, I find their bras fit me better than any other.

Saying that, I did get measured at a proper lingerie shop which was a total revelation. I went in ages ago wearing a 38F, came out in a 32JJ!!!! talk about fecking Jordan! But it fitted, and I felt comfortable and supported. I paid £42 for it, but the last few I've bought from bravissimo are all less than that, between £28 and £37. I bought a bikini top (am i really brave enough to wear it?? I do hope so!!) from there for £24 in their sale, found briefs for £5 to match it in Next sale though, couldn't justify £24 for bikini bottoms!

girlnextdoor · 16/08/2008 21:10

I am beginning to be thankful I have small ones- can't imagine lugging G/H/I/etc cups around!

blackrock · 16/08/2008 21:21

I have a couple of sets of expensive and nice underwear, the rest is mid range MandS.

I put the posh stuff on when i need to feel better about myself. it does the trick.

If i had enough money, the whole lot would be expensive and perfect!

suey2 · 16/08/2008 21:26

an awful lot on a agent provocateur one which didn't fit. Be warned, they are a bit m&s with their sizings. ie smaller on the cup and bigger on the back than they say.
I got some expensive ones from r and p but I don't think they are worth it tbh. I machine wash and they die quickly. But they are bang on for sizing so I go there and then order online from bravissimo or figleaves- sometimes ordering two cup sizes and returning as needed. This way I have got the cost for everyday bras down to 20-25 quid

ladymariner · 16/08/2008 21:28

If I had the money, I'd have a reduction tbh.

potatofactory · 17/08/2008 10:29

I've just bought a couple of rigby and peller ones on line (hadn't heard of them before) based on the beginning of this thread - I should have read to the end! Now I'm scared of having pointy boobs - what's their return policy?!

spugs · 17/08/2008 18:02

Im planning on spending quite a bit when i get to go bra shopping as ive just had mine enlarged on thursday ive gone from a 32 A to a 32 E (they do not look anywhere near as big as they sound as fake ones for some reason loook smaller ) and i am very pleased. I originally only wanted a D but now i hope they dont shrink
so when im finally allowed out of the sports bras in 3 mths time im going to treat myself to a couple of really nice sets will prob still go to m&s for t shirt bras though

sophy · 17/08/2008 19:31

it's definitely worth paying more for a better bra imo. And not just if you are huge. I'm quite small - 34A - and my best bra purchase was my wedding bra from Rigby & Peller which I still wear for special occasions 8 yrs later. It's handwash only or I'd wear it more often.

Bought a very plain cotton La perla bra from figleaves last year and have been really impressed with that too. Fits really well and has stood up to lots of mchine washing.

bakealot · 18/08/2008 17:15

Definitely worth being measured and fitted properly and getting it done regularly as well. I thought I was a 32E and I'm now a 30F, got fitted at the Lakeside House of Fraser - fantastic fitters, couldn't have been more helpful and I bought some new bras - about £32 each but they fit so well and give me a great shape (no pointyness!) They also teach you how to get in your own bras properly - swoop and scoop which made me laugh...

MuchLessTiredNow · 18/08/2008 17:18

£70 on a R+P - and as soon as I got home, my gfs thought I had lost loads of weight. Just was it carefully - was so upset when it died!!!!! (DH tumbled it a couple of times)

MuchLessTiredNow · 18/08/2008 17:19

Am loving the tesco pretty ones at the mo - got about 5 and matching knickknocks for the price of my dead bra.... RIP

blowsy · 18/08/2008 17:29

I had a £100 voucher for Rigby & Peller. It bought me one bra and one pair of weenie knickers. They are lovely, but not worth it imo. I'm only a 32C and can get just as nice from M&S for much less.

My large norked (34GG)friend however, gets 2 bras a year from R&P as they're the only ones that fit her.

Friendlypizzaeater · 18/08/2008 17:36

Big Norks - I agree R & P, or Prima Donna and for everyday wear Panache.

My best buy was a R & P bra about 4 years ago and its still going strong - which is unheard of normally for me !

You can get R & P cheaper on EBay - bought a brand new one yesterday for £30. Don;t give me pointy norks either

thefortbuilder · 18/08/2008 21:26

R&P are great, and you do get the right size

my mil wears her bras into the shower and uses that to hand wash them!
