OK what do I wear to keep warm at a September wedding oop north?

I have a dress, can't link to it because it's several years old, but it's Toast, burnt orange colour silk with black and cream flowers and spots, just below knee length. I don't want to get a different dress because I need my budget for shoes etc. and I love this dress.

But I've never been able to get the on top bit right so I usually just shiver. I look crap in a formal jacket and it wouldn't go with the dress which is very light. And I can imagine any pashmina style thing falling off all the time while I chase DS. Is there such a thing as a very glam and weddingy cardigan?

Oh and while you're at it style mavens, some weddingy shoes with a wide toe? Hopeless I know...

WHat sort of shape is the dress? Maybe a shrug? Might not be warm enough though. I bet we can find you a cardigan type thing. Something a bit like this (though that probably isn't the right colour). What sort of budget for this and the shoes?

Monsoon are good for stuff like this, Malory's right. Cardigan. Although, rather worryingly, they used to have a whole section called 'shrugs', but I can't find it now.

Wow, I actually like both of those straight off. Would never consider that kind of thing normally but they would work with the dress. It is fitted, but not tight, very simple sheath shape with straight-across neckline and simple shoulder straps. It is a very specific burnt orange/brownish colour so would be very hard to match that and any other orange or yellow would clash - so cream would be far better (maybe sparkly?) - or even possible black - to pick out the flowers.

I would rather spend less than £100ish in total, but I'd spend more if I found something I loved and thought I could use a lot.

Damn straight cod I'll have a vest on! In fact am going to get a thermal slip thingy to fit the length of the dress. It doesn't have sleeves though, I need sleeves!

No wide toe shoes. I do have wide feet but they are wide at the toe - like triangle shapes. So I like shoes like rocket dog and birkenstocks because they fit. But when it comes to dressy sandals, they're almost always narrow.

Also need size 8/9. I know this will be really hard - I'm even considering looking at knee-length boots instead.

Oh that phase 8 one is lovely JackieNo! But full-length sleeves would be good. I'm crafty so I could get a plain one and sew on beading around the edge. I'm getting into this shrug concept, can't believe it had passed me by...

AH, I see what you mean about the shoes/toes. Would wide fit shoes do, though, do you think? Have you tried Evans? I find I can go down a shoe size there, because theirs are so wide fitting.

I often find wide fit shows still have a narrow toe, but I hadn't thought of Evans so I'll have a look, thanks.

Jackie thanks so much, this is giving me loads of options. I think I do need fitted, and the style that appeals most is cosy knitted/crocheted, cream, and short shrug-style (ideally one that does up though!) with long sleeves. I will go shopping rather than order online so I'm going to try as many of these shops as possible.

I have to be off now but will check back in case anyone posts some more lovely ones (or the elusive shoes).

Oh yes - I'd forgotten about the shoes. Can you do heels, or do you prefer flats, or somewhere in between?

Can't do high heels (too tall/ungainly!), but could do low & chunky heels or flats.
