I am a bit of a jewellery virgin - where can I search for a nice ring?

I don't really know what I want, but I'll know it when I see it.

Any good website recommendations?

I don't want to pay extra for the name.

Can you get ethically sourced jewellery?

Or maybe something vintage or reclaimed and remodeled?

Something timeless and classic though.

Hmmm... I don't know what I want, do I.

The Tiffany Etoile is lovely ninedragons - DH bought me one last Valentines - you can get lots and they all sit together - that is the idea although DH has said I have to wait a while before I get another one.

Wht don't you go to Hatten Garden and get one made to your own design?

I think that is called a gypsy setting. It often has little notches to make a star around the stone.

Dover Antique Jewelry is one of the best sellers of vintage stuff on eBay, they could be well worth a look.

Sorry, conversation moved on while DD was dithering about whether or not she was hungry. The ring with the stone embedded in the mount is a gypsy setting. I think Americans may also call it a rubover setting, just so you have the terminology to search with.

My engagement ring is like thisand it is very practical. I know someone who lost a 1ct diamond when her claw-set ring got snagged on her jeans pocket ( her husband was a complete arsehole and the thought of him having to shell out for a replacement always made me snigger)

Me again! You should also search for bezel setting.

Could you take the heart-shaped turquoise and do something with that, with a jewellery designer? to keep the sentimental meaning of the stone/ring, but in a setting that means you'll wear it - ?

also this place made our wedding rings, which were just plain platinum bands, but with a diamond set on the inside of each ring. At the time they suggested setting blue diamond hearts in the rings etc. - they would make whatever you wanted, I think. And they are (or were) much cheaper than high st shops.
