I am a jeans and casual top kind of girl (and happy in my skin ). Tops tend to be tunic/empire shape. What can I wear to go over them when it gets a bit chilly of an evening? Cardies are too slim and tight fitting, while hoodies are too big. Is there an in-between garment I am yet to discover?
Links especially welcome! Be gentle with me, I am a style novice

I have a couple of casual jackets - one linen, one cord - that I wear on occasions like this. I'll try and find pics of something similar.

frumpygrumpyhasPMT · 01/08/2008 20:10

A shrug? Takes the attention up and the tunic will still hide the hips. I am also a fan of a gorgeous scarf with a little jacket. Scarves can be pretty, serious, delicate, heavy, thin. Have loads and wear with the same plain jacket/cardi/shrug.

GreenEggsAndSpam · 01/08/2008 20:19

A shrug? That's what I am doing with my eyebrows raised - do you have a picture

Little jackets? Maybe...but it would have to be just the right shape and material. Any ideas?

I am not a dressy kinda gal (in case you hadn't realised!).

This kind of thing

giddykipper · 01/08/2008 20:20

Or this

GreenEggsAndSpam · 01/08/2008 20:21

Thanks giddy . It looks a good shape (although I would want full sleeves), but £75

Just thought - I am short - 5ft2, and a size 12-14, so bit worried it might make me look a bit square shaped . What do you think?

BBBee · 01/08/2008 20:24

boden long cardi

giddykipper · 01/08/2008 20:27

Sorry, didn't even look at the price, was just looking at the style.

I'm not very good with shapes, I don't know whether it would suit or not.

GreenEggsAndSpam · 01/08/2008 20:35

BBBee - I am SO not the shape of the woman in that picture! I fear the cardi would cling to all the bumpy bits lol! Thanks for trying - but I know that is definitely not for me
giddy - ta again, I have an idea at least now

what about a big pashmina or a shawl? i know they're not as fashionable as they were but i love them.

GreenEggsAndSpam · 01/08/2008 21:31

mlm - don't want to offend but pashmina's just say 'poncy' to me - sorry .
Thanks for replying to my question though!

I have a couple of cardis (from Sainsbury's, I am so glam) which have a single large button or tie on the bust then which drape from there

nothing which clings or is tight

they go very nicely over a tunic shape

GreenEggsAndSpam · 01/08/2008 23:16

Oh, that sounds good dusty - ta

cornsilk · 01/08/2008 23:18

OMG I really, really WANT that Boden cardi.

mamalovesmojitos · 01/08/2008 23:31

christ green eggs- poncey ! i'll have you know i am far from poncey .

i cannot describe the young, natural, un-poncey way i wear them ()unfortunately, i wish i could as they are fantastic at warming without adding bulky layers.

hey ho, different strokes.

fin42 · 01/08/2008 23:42

I agree with the one big button/tie theme (iheartdusty)over a tunic/empire line

Niceychops · 02/08/2008 09:37

this?

GreenEggsAndSpam · 03/08/2008 15:15

Ta for the advice - I feel better equipped to hit the shops now
