Ok, DS is starting school in September and I have been looking at school shoes in advance as he has wide feet (g/f fitting) and I really really HATE anything flashing, with a toy car in or clumpy....

What I would really like are some good old fashioned t-bars.....;the boy's equivalents for Mary janes....can anyone help??!

Thanks

Have you tried Russell and Bromley? I got my ds some fab boat shoes from there.

But do be a bit careful. My friend's ds was teased horribly about his Start-Rite T bar sandals. It starts very young, I'm afraid.

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 18:14

really?! For wearing t-bars?! Am .....Don't R+B just stock start rite though?? Have looked on their website (startrite) and nothing!!

Really. They all said they were girl's shoes and she had to get him some different ones in the end. And that was a "nice" primary school!

The other thing to remember is that they TRASH their shoes once they start school! The lovely boat shoes I mentioned lasted less than a term! I gave up in the end and got my ds Clarks school shoes with toys in the heels like everyone else.

My son has grown out of his. Do you want me to post a pic to see if they are the style you mean and then someone can help you find some?

lljkk · 28/07/2008 18:22

??
DC had never had toys in shoes, & they mostly have Clarks, too.
Mind, DS1 current school shoes came from variety shop for about a tenner. We went up 2 sizes to get him the width (he's F/G, too). Agree about the trashing them, especially after boys discover footie.

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 19:02

He trashes shoes already so used to that!!!!!!!

itati please do post a picture of your son's shoes.....

I think I am just very old fashioned re flashing lights and toys in shoes (and they were clarks, check out their website to see what I mean!)

Just about to have dinner but will do!

itati · 28/07/2008 19:31

Need a clean but show the style

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 19:50

was thinking more t bar style.....thanks anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
itati · 28/07/2008 19:53

no idea about t bars for boys.

brimfull · 28/07/2008 19:54

don't think they make them these days dozy, hence the difficulty finding them

your ds would be teased mercilessly as they would be seen as girls shoes

giddykipper · 28/07/2008 19:57

Would something like this be a happy compromise?

brimfull · 28/07/2008 20:02

I think this is what the op means but these are girls

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 20:04

ggirl - thanks for the link - I was thinking exactly along these lines but obviously not the girls version...I can remember all the boys at my old school worn t bars but admitidly they were clumpier than the girls......i just can't bear the flashing lights or gimmicky toys that clarks do and think the Ecco are a good compromise.......

Thanks Giddy for the ecco link!

giddykipper · 28/07/2008 20:06

I've just starting buying DS ecco shoes because they are great for wide feet - Clark's G fitting (the widest in his shoe size) is too narrow but ecco ones are much better.

wordgirl · 28/07/2008 20:09

Boys' t-bar shoes here www.startriteshoes.com/childrens-shoes/5204_9F050/SHUFFLE

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 20:12

I LOVE the startrite SHUFFLE...exactly what I am looking for but the only problem is...only goes up to a size 8!!!!!!!! Am looking for a 10!!!

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 20:13

Giddy good for my DS then as he is also v.vwide....do they stock Ecco in Russell and Bromley do you know???

OP posts:
JackieNo · 28/07/2008 20:18

I'd guess these are too sandally (is that a word?).

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 20:21

they are lovely but perhaps a bit too summery??? Do you think??? Should i just succumb to flashing back boring boring....

RusselBrussel · 28/07/2008 20:30

I think whilst a Tbar style may be nice for Sept, Oct, they are not too great through the winter. My ds never ever wore the wellyboots the school asked us to provide for playtime (neither did the other children) so they used their school shoes to run through the wet playground at playtime. Any shoe which manages to keep the feet semi-dry is okay by me. And T bars would fail miserably I'm afraid...

brimfull · 28/07/2008 20:31

they all wear the velcro fastening ones as they're easy to do themselves
ds's school they have to be black and he's already asking for the ones that look trainerish for september

JackieNo · 28/07/2008 20:31

Yes - they wouldn't last the winter. Tbh, I think I'd bite the bullet, and get him something more ordinary.

giddykipper · 28/07/2008 20:31

I don't know about R&B - we have a small independent children's shoe shop in town that stocks them. If you are near Cheshire Oaks there's an outlet there. There's also a store in Manchester if you are anywhere near there. There are bound to be others.

Dozymare · 28/07/2008 20:32

oh yes RussellBrussell, didn't think of that..........Feet would get rather wet wouldn't they....
