Opinions for a black tie ball

I am not girly at all. I don't do makeup, my hair "style" is wash and tie it up and I live in jeans. I've been invited to a black tie ball and I'm scared! The Ball is in October so I need to be warm

I've found a dress I love that I hope will suit me (and hide the bits I want to hide with the help of Spanx ) and I need help with the fancy bits.

this is the dress and I

was thinking these for shoes/bag as there is no chance of me walking in strappy shoes and then maybe a chunky silver bracelet?

Hair and makeup leaves me shaking at the thought!

I thought, what a lovely dress! Until I scrolled down and saw the skirt.

Folk just don't wear that kind of dress to a ball, unless your name is Cinderella.

Its a traditional 'ballgown' but it seems almost anything goes these days at black tie does.

I would try and get something you at least have a hope of wearing again

Forgot to say, I really don't like the shoes or the bag. Maybe I'm being dull but I really would go for black shoes and prob a black bag too.

LL - fantastic idea for a birthday treat - if I start saving up my child benefit now, maybe I can afford one by, hmmm, 2012...

This bag is very sweet and is silvery?

That is a very lovely dress, and I think it will be quite timeless, so you should get to wear it again and again.

I thik it would look great with your hair up, if that is possible. I would keep make up and accessories very simple. You will look stunning without all the extras.

Am 21, its a work ball (read excuse for a piss up ) and from talking to colleagues no-one is doing cocktail dresses - its all long, proper dresses. I am not a slinky sort of person so I want to avoid slinky dresses.

I know the dress is a tad gothic barbie, but its part of the reason I love it. I don't expect to wear it again (The dress costs £50) and if ness, I can keep it for a dressing up dress.

I have someone who can do my makeup and hair so I'm not worried about looking OTT
