HI,Im 53,52``.Weigh 9 stone.
Reasonably active, would love to be toned.
I joined a Body Pump class for the first time last saturday.I lasted 45 minutes.
I have been in agony all week.My joints, particularly ankles, ache.Have difficulty moving and have come out in a cold sore. This happened before when I joined a running club 5 years ago and it took me weeks to recover from just the first night.
Can you give me any tips?DH says, take it very slowly.BUT HOW??!!Any advice gratefully received. How do these stars manage to get gorgeous bodies?Like Daniel Craig,I know I am not a bloke but how does get from -10 to off the scale so effectively? Is there any hope for me?

I am still hobbling and in agony but went on the internet and I think I have tendonitus which will take a year to fully recover from. Two weeks of my holiday ruined and I am in so much pain. Please be careful anyone who wants to join a class who isn`t used to this level of exercise,be warned!

time4me, just seen this thread! I went to my first Body Attack class at the gym on Tuesday. I am used to exercise but this was different. My arms and bum are still hurting - the lunges were a killer!! I had to cycle home as well... I will be going back though. Might have to take it easier as have some problems with my knees, from long distance running.
I've not heard of Body Step, but I used to do Body pump.
I'm sorry to hear you are still in agony. Have you been to see a doc about it?

Time4me - so sorry that you have tendonitis - how awful when all you were trying to do was get fit! The instructor really should have warned you about the level of the class and made sure that you were doing the lower options (or at least were aware of them so you could choose what to do).

Very sad,in almost constant pain, but there is an improvement.
Hi I am the Body Attack girl who got tendonitus from just one session of Body Attack.Ive been to the Doctors 3 times and he says it will take time but can refer me for private physio if I am desperate.I am but I am not paying for physio.Mornings are worse,I rub Ibrofen ointment on at night and hobble in the morning. Its affected my Life so much,I cant look after my handicapped son as well,I can`t do my job so well, and I feel very depressed. Its 3 months since the fatal first class.I have put on loads of weight and look lumpy and frumpy.Any words of encouragement will be much appreciated-thank you.

I have been doing it on and off for about 15 years, started off in the gym in NZ where it was developed (yes really!). Starting off with the LIGHTEST (or NO) weights and correct technique is the key. When I started it over here I would cringe when I would see over-enthuastic instructors let complete novices start with weights and no advice on correct positioning during the squats! Needless to say you would never see them again in a class!

My advice would be to stick with it (is great for toning) but just use the bar for the next few times and GRADUALLY increase the weights (don't let the instructor bully you). You have inspired me to consider getting back into it, now my LO is nearly 4months old. Good luck!

I always find the instructors with by far the best bodies teach pilates and yoga - and that has to say something, don't you think?

mabanana · 10/10/2008 22:00

I'm so sorry you got so damaged by the class. I really would recommend a beginner's pilates class to help get you strong again without pain or injury. Go back to your gp and explain how it is affecting your life (esp caring for your son) and ask for NHS physio. Also for better painkillers. Pain is depressing.

Hi Mabanana
Thank you for your really kind and supportive response, bless you.I am hoping that things will improve soon and that I can start going to classes again cos I did love it.I was at a low point,I am now suffering from a cold.I will keep you informed, thanks again xx
