Or is this a big No No?

It would be very handy if it is acceptable

I would. But I would make sure I also had something bright to go with it.

bluewolf · 22/07/2008 22:00

No, unless covered with bright accessories that hide the black. It might be handy but a bit of a faux pas I think

TillyScoutsmum · 22/07/2008 22:00

I would - bright or white/cream accessories

seeker · 22/07/2008 22:01

big no no

unknownrebelbang · 22/07/2008 22:02

Not something I'd do tbh.

cmotdibbler · 22/07/2008 22:03

Do you mean black dress under a bright/white jacket that almost totally covers it, or just a dress ? Under a jacket might be OK, but not otherwise

RambleOn · 22/07/2008 22:04

No. The only worse colour to wear is white

islandofsodor · 22/07/2008 22:04

I wouldn't. I'm having problems finding a dress for a wedding in a few weeks as everything is black and white and I know it would cause offense to wear black an d white

Slouchy · 22/07/2008 22:06

yes. but you have to be brazen!

I wore city shorts to a wedding on sat - it was fine.

harpomarx · 22/07/2008 22:06

only if you accessorize it with a big crucifix and a little white collar.

Heated · 22/07/2008 22:08

No, but have been to wedding where they have.

janmoomoo · 22/07/2008 22:14

I wouldnt have a problem with it. I think it can look very smart. Wear with a nice fascinator in the hair and a pashmina and some heels. Lovely.

notnowbernard · 22/07/2008 22:15

Ok, mostly No

Will have to re-think. A good friend told me to go for the black dress (but she is brazen )

It's an Autumn wedding. Big Posh reception after

yes! but then I had my bridesmaids in black with bright pink roses and shawls and ribbon

sherby · 22/07/2008 22:17

Yes I would

Very chic, we are too stuffy about this kind of thing

LittleBella · 22/07/2008 22:18

Not if it is a spice girl's wedding

ravenAK · 22/07/2008 22:20

I would, mostly because I'd never own a dress that wasn't black. Good accessories & it should be fine?

Alternatively, a fabulous (non-black) trouser suit?

Hadassah · 22/07/2008 22:25

No. I have had very successful beige and brown autum wedding outfits - e.g. beige dress suit, brown hat/scarf/shoes, or beige/brown/blue dress, brown shoes, pale cream cardy, or brown jersey dress, brown shoes, pale cream cardy etc etc. Having said that, many people seem to do well in darker greens for autum weddings - though that could be just my impression.

Milkycheeks · 22/07/2008 22:25

I did - floaty knitted thing, accessorized with bright green, to an autumn wedding. Bride's sis also wore black & bright accessories. Brazen hussies .

NorkyButNice · 22/07/2008 22:25

Me too cazzy! Lovely black dresses with pink/white flowers and sparkly jewellery - very classy it was too.

Everyone who's said it's a faux pas - would you really have minded if someone turned up in black at your wedding? Wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest - it's not as if she'd be trying to overshine you is it?

And considering how many gents will be wearing dark suits, it's not really fair on the ladies now is it?

Jux · 22/07/2008 22:26

Go for it; I've done it plenty of times. It raised no comment at all. (I've worn white to a funeral too.)

chipo · 22/07/2008 22:46

I've work black to many a church wedding and no funny looks here.

twinsetandpearls · 23/07/2008 00:25

No.

colacubes · 23/07/2008 00:40

Yes acceptable, I did earlier in the year, and looked very fetching!!

And I was not asked to leave or given any funny looks

twinsetandpearls · 23/07/2008 00:41

I would have looked at you funny
