yes very

Dropdeadfred · 18/07/2008 12:00

not if you like broken orange hair....

witchandchips · 18/07/2008 12:01

best done with an 80s style duran duran type heavy fringe

padboz · 18/07/2008 12:04

Not improved then? I made some spectacular messes in the 80's with it and my 14 year old neice wants to have a bash this weekend... I dont want to be like Jimmy whatsit in the Yellow Pages advert and ruin her hair but she's dead keen. Right of passage?

Maybe try lemon juice instead ? Get lots of conditioner for after though

KatieScarlett2833 · 18/07/2008 12:07

Take her to a hairdresser instead, please. My sun-in experiments still make me cringe. Crispy hair, a la Worzel Gummidge anyone?

fortyplus · 18/07/2008 12:08

They do three strengths - including a weak one 'with real lemon juice' that is very subtle. DS2 wanted to do it last year and it just looked as though the sun had lightened his hair a bit.

Blondilocks · 19/07/2008 21:02

OH used it when he was away & he went ginger! It didn't look that awful, but funny.

My hairdresser said that you must tell the hairdresser if you use that & then go for colours & to definitely not use it on coloured hair.

Aarrgghh · 19/07/2008 21:03

my hair went orange and crispy - no no no

southeastastra · 19/07/2008 21:04

yes lol do they still make it, is it 1984?

spaghettiarms · 19/07/2008 21:05

I used it for ages and used to smile when the hairdresser told me I had lovely shiney hair.

Then I would mention the sun in and they would tell me not to use it because it ruins your hair and makes it dry and brittle.

Try it.. MUCH cheaper than going to the hairdresser.

MaryAnnSingleton · 19/07/2008 21:06

don't touch it - very bad stuff

popsycal · 19/07/2008 21:07

I remember the smell of sun-in from my teenage years. Hot cat piss.
Nice

Washersaurus · 19/07/2008 21:09

I have used the lemon gentle one in the past with no problems - my hair has always been quite shiny and frequently commented on by hairdressers too.

My younger sister however used the regular one on her darker hair and ended up with a brittle orange tangle

Bertolli · 19/07/2008 21:16

Me too washersaurus.

I use it and have done some modeling for top name hair salon, they love the colour!

i think it depends on your hair type!

spaghettiarms · 19/07/2008 21:23

Interesting, I have naturally quite blonde hair already really just use it as highlights
never thought about the effect on naturally darker hair

Washersaurus · 19/07/2008 21:35

I used to use it because weirdly every summer the sun used to really bleach just my fringe, and then when my hair grew out I had significantly darker roots. It looked like I had just dipped my fringe in a bucket of bleach, so I used the sun in to gradually blend it

Washersaurus · 19/07/2008 21:36

I don't use it any more because I am severely neglectful of my appearance these days and my hair is lucky to get washed, never mind styled.....

expatinscotland · 19/07/2008 21:38

Nooooo.

I remember the day one of my two best buddies did this in Denver.

And then fell asleep by the pool.

She phoned me up in tears, 'It's hooker blonde, EIS! It's hooker blonde!'
