Are pashminas really naff?

It's just that I have bought a halter necked maxi dress for a wedding (register office do, so informal) and I need something in case it's pissing down inclement weather.

So do I get a pashmina or will everyone point at me and laugh??

I use the cheaper versions too. I went to a wedding evening last month and had one draped over one shoulder when I didn't need it around my shoulders. I was wearing a bias cut ankle length floral dress. It looked and felt great.
One big tip though with the cheaper versions is this. Always fold it, don't crush it into a bag...they crease up and then look terrible.

Mrs Badger has completely put me off!

Don't want to look like a heap of laundry!

sorry

get a cheap one and try it with the dress

if there is the slightest hint of laundry, bag lady, old crone or Isadora Duncan save it for winter to use as a scarf and geta cardi instead

because they are so drapey they look much better over tailored or slinky things than flowing floaty stuff

Not naff, very practical and versatile.

Good for wraping up in on sofa on a cold night and eqaully good for casually draping over your arms at a wedding.

I wouldn't worry about it having to be pashmina wool. Who would know??? Who would care??? Only up their arse label clocking types, who you wouldn't/shouldn't care about anyhow.

I have a few, one 'real' one and various others in different type of fabrics. Ok so not technically pashminas but do the same thing.
