I'm going to a wedding, I am NOT going to coast, lovely though it is! Could someone tell me where I can find a fantastic 50's style dress to wear?

Pref. with full skirt (hiding the cursed muffin top/wibbly stomach). I have large norks, rubbish legs, ok waist, face doesn't always make babies cry . Can anyone help?!

Nothing in monsoons

Tilly - there are some lovely dresses there but problem I have is large norks need suspension from bra with industrial strength straps! Can't do strapless. This is the sort of style though here

Now theres this but I have a thing about large noks and the tops of these 50's style dresses.
They always make the norks look like they want to escape everywhere.

I think you need a bit of a shape on the bustline.

TillyScoutsmum · 08/07/2008 21:44

I have similar bra issues - I ended up getting strapless with a bolero over the top (ridiculous but couldn't find one I liked as much with straps). It was from coast though

Principles?

butwhybutwhy · 08/07/2008 21:46

this is the kind of thing I mean with the nork area
Bit of a vshape to show em off.
Nipped in at the waist and it will smooth over the muffin.
Although a pair of suck em in pants would sort that problem out.

TillyScoutsmum · 08/07/2008 21:46

not quite what you're after but could work if you can do yellow ?

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 08/07/2008 21:47

LOVE this one from principles but the bra issues strikes again

Agree But why, structure is fab, also haven't got legs for that one.

butwhybutwhy · 08/07/2008 21:49

I dont get what you mean with the legs?
Any of these dresses will show your legs from the knee down.

Which bit is bad?

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 08/07/2008 21:50

That is lovely but yellow isn't for me I'm afraid!

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 08/07/2008 21:50

navy ?

too high necked for norks ?

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 08/07/2008 21:51

Nothing above the knee is what I mean with legs.

Pannacotta · 08/07/2008 21:53

You could get the Principles one and get a dressmaker to change the straps so you could wear a bra with it?
Never understand why so many dresses have spaghetti straps, they are so unflattering to 99% of women...

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 08/07/2008 21:54

I KNOW! It's so annoying! I hadn't thought of that, could apply that theory to lots of dresses

OP posts:
TillyScoutsmum · 08/07/2008 21:54

bit bridey ?

TillyScoutsmum · 08/07/2008 21:57

ooh - that principles one is very pretty - would be easy to get straps put on (I'm just having some put on my wedding dress - same problem there - all blardy strapless )

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 08/07/2008 21:58

Bit bridesmaidey but fab - sorry, don't mean to turn down everything!

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 08/07/2008 21:59

You could easily remove the thin straps and replace them with thicker black ribbon straps which would hide a bra, which wouldn't cost much either.
It's a lovely dress, really unusual.

butwhybutwhy · 08/07/2008 21:59

Ok then
This one
and this
this one but it has yellow on it
this one would be fab
too busy?
this but something doesnt look right with the neck bit

TillyScoutsmum · 08/07/2008 22:02

Just to be an awkward bugger - why no coast ?? There's a lovely one there - with straps

DANCESwithLordPottingtonSmythe · 08/07/2008 22:06

No real reason but just fear of matching someone else at the wedding, everyone goes to coast to buy dresses to buy at wedding! Have you got a link to it?

Butwhy - sorry, none of those, particularly not the too fussy one...yargh! Actually neckline one is poss. same as yellow one earlier but still think you have point on structure and not sure that has enough.
