I am a new mum - will I regret getting my long hair chopped off?

Don't know whether it is my hormones but my hair is really greasy (nice!) and I am having to wash and style it practically every day so I thought it would be nice to have more of a style. Thinking of a new-style bob type thing (you can tell that I have really thought about this!). Will I regret not being able to tie it back do you think? Argggghh! I can't make up my mind. Going to watch Criminal Justice but back later.

LOL in spite of the fact that I have been advised to do everything from keeping it long to shaving it off , this thread has actually helped me to come to a decision and I am going to keep it long and try and funky it up a bit ( using words like funky is so not funky!) with a fringe and a few layers. Will post a pic of the results.

Great site btw Displacement (and I love your nickname), having short hair must be so liberating but my mum has short hair and I am already turning into her and don't want to accelerate the process...

I've just done exactly that! (pics on my profile) but ds2 is 15mths and I wouldn't have wanted to go shorter before now, tying it back has been too easy!

Hi Pillock, love the new do! No regrets then?

Well I went ahead and just had a good cut, new fringe and some layers and it feels completely different - hadn't had it cut in 6 months . Really pleased with it. Hairdresser advised me against jumping from very long hair to bob, said to do it in stages so wouldn't be such a shock. Must get hair cut more regularly, there is low maintenance and then there is no maintenance!

I was thinking of doing what you have, some layers and a fringe, but I'm scared of a fringe, every time I have had it done in the past I've regretted it...

Been having my hair cut shorter and shorter over the last year or so - it was very long before - and I can honestly say that the shorter or more styled your hair is the more effort it needs!

Layers are great as long as they aren't the sort that need styling/straightening every day!

Will eventually grow my hair long again - probably over the winer when that in-between stage won't be as annoying.

I had short hair when my daughter was born but have since grown it long as am lazy arse and can't be bothered to do things to it every day/get it cut regularly. Obviously you may be a bit more organised than I am!

I just had all my really quite nice strawberry blonde hair lobbed off...got bored with it, and think maybe I was just feeling slightly down...have been through a lot lately...anyway, I am SOOOOO sorry I did it. Am in a kind of mourning...keep looking at my 3 year old daughter and feeling jealous of her hair. So don't do it unless you really really hate yours! It's really quite upsetting...I am already trying to think how long it will be by christmas...

I had long hair when both of my DCs were born. I had it all dhopped off when DC1 was 9 weeks old and with DC2 I only got to 7 weeks before having it all chopped. No regreats at all (although i have grown it back long now 3 years later) and I found the short trendy crops helped me regain my energy and verve.

i am seriously pondering cutting mine properly short and bleaching v blonde. have had it before and its such a piece of piss to look after. can have it scrunchy and messy or neat side parting for dressy or anywhere in between for the rest of the time.
i wont bother asking (rl or here) for opinions first as EVERYONE said NO! dont do it! and i prevaricated for ages last time, then when i finally did it absolutely everyone was in raptures and said how totally wonderful it was

If you want to look completely style free, then have a pony tail.
